Awesome!  Paul, I may take you up on that. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks!

If all goes per plan, we will live stream the Friday Conference on YouTube...
Go to YouTube.com and search for "GPSL Live"
Most likely you will have to search for it again after our lunch break..Sometimes it retains the same YouTube address and sometimes not !
I will be monitoring the live stream.  Send me an email if you have issues...
In addition, we will record the presentations and have them available later if all else fails.....

Thanks for doing this!  I had hoped to attend this years GPSL, but family commitments took priority.  However, I will likely get a chance to watch some of the live stream.  Much appreciated.

Mike:

When you send it out on YouTube Live will you be monitoring the chat that YouTube provides?  I am sure there will be questions posted.

If there is WiFi in the lab and attendees have access to it, I might be able to assist.  If possible to get the URL the day of the conference I would like to spread that around on Facebook since there is no limit to the number of viewers on YouTube.  I have in the past posted Pico balloon launch and tracking information to the Amateur Logic Facebook page and that has generated a respectable response.
The conference stream might pick up a few new future balloonists.

NWS Des Moines forecast discussion excerpt for Thu-Sun

Mark Conner N9XTN

Quiet weather is
then expected into Thursday and much of Friday with temperatures
holding at or below normal. In fact, lows on Thursday morning will
be approaching record levels in some locations of the west. Strong
moisture transport is expected by late Friday afternoon into Friday
night and some thunderstorms activity is anticipated at this point.
This threat will persist into Saturday prior to the arrival of a
cold front by afternoon. The rain chances on Sunday appear low and
any activity on that day would be isolated.

Hadn’t thought about monitoring chat, but I think we could do that...will check with Jim..
Yes on WiFi....we will get the PW before we begin on Friday..

Just wanted to let everyone know that I have updated my flight prediction tools to use the new GFS Version 15 (FV3-based) weather model.  The oldest weather file you can use is 2019061212.  The earlier ones are no longer supported by the too.

HABHUB is still using the 06 prediction so I don't know if they have the support in place or not.

Mike & Jules running late

Michael Hojnowski

Gang,

Jules and I got into Pella at 10pm last night to discover that our pet-friendly hotel hadn't reserved us a room.  We had to book elsewhere, and suffice to say, we're not going to make the 9am tour.  We'll try to catch up later.

GPSL forecast

Mark Conner N9XTN

For tomorrow morning, I think there will be a relative lull in activity.  A band of showers and thunderstorms will move across Iowa this morning and early afternoon (they're in Omaha now) but weaken as they do so.  Another round will fire up late today or overnight, but I expect most of it will move off to the east of Pella by dawn Saturday.  There may be lingering light showers and it should remain pretty cloudy and damp.  South winds of 7-12 mph expected at launch time, with 7am temps around 68-70 and about 80 by noon.

Later Saturday stronger thunderstorms are expected to fire up in western Iowa and move eastward though the afternoon and evening.  Main threat will be marginally severe hail and strong winds.  In the Pella area this should happen well after recovery is done.

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make it to Pella for the launches.  I'm starting to think about potential 2020 dates for hosting GPSL in Omaha.  The College World Series runs through Father's Day weekend, so we won't be able to have it then due to lack of hotel room availability (or, the rates are about 2x normal).  We could have it June 4-6 or July 9-11.  The June date would involve shorter corn for easier recoveries. :)

We'll get Omaha stubbed in for the 2020 dates.

Jeff, I think you were looking at my ARHAB.org stream which wasn’t live yet.

Streams I know of are here: https://twitter.com/arhaballooning/status/1139538189444636672

Pella ARC stream (lapel mic audio): https://youtu.be/TNIlFjB2meY

ARHAB.org: https://youtu.be/4meJlb21HoE

The first one has better audio, just consider mine as a backup / extra angle if needed.
