Re: another online prediction tool
Word from the other side of the pond:-
The Mancunian Balloonian project at the University of Manchester UK ( http://manseds.co.uk/index.html ) have been using the API to the Habitat predictor to do Montie Carlo runs varying flight parameters to get a similar heat map output - see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tVPAtmtc7w
The Habitat predictor holds the GFS world data in RAM - consequently it’s quite quick.
The Southampton predictor has been around for 3 - 4 years. I’ve used it a few times - the heat map output is cool and its seems well thought out (the theory is extensive). The user interface is reasonably intuitive and quite easy to use. However the few times I’ve used it I haven’t found the results more accurate than Habitat, on the downside its much slower (I suspect they hold the GFS data on disk).
