The GIJN-L Email Discussion Group

The GIJN-L Email Discussion Group

Welcome to the Global Investigative Journalism Network discussion list (GIJN-L). Please take time to read our guidelines:

Who can join the GIJN’s Listserv?

To join this list you must be a professional journalist or an employee of a nonprofit newsroom, an NGO, or educational organization, or its equivalent, that actively works in support of investigative reporting and related data journalism.

This list welcomes journalists from both GIJN member organizations and non-member organizations.

Participants are expected to uphold the highest levels of journalistic professionalism, including accuracy, independence, transparency, and fairness in their journalism and other activities.

If you don’t meet these criteria, you are welcome to keep updated on GIJN's news and investigative tips and tools by following our Facebook and Twitter feeds, and by subscribing to the GIJN Bulletin. Also, our Resource Center has useful guides for journalists worldwide.

How can I join this listserv?

Click on “Apply For Membership In This Group.” All members need to be approved in order to join, and we vet and confirm all applications on a rolling basis. If we need more information about you or your affiliation, we will contact you by email from

You can use this list to crowdsource information for investigations, ask for contacts to help on stories, find resources, engage in discussions on investigative methodology, exchange story ideas, and learn more about investigative and data journalism.

Do not share confidential or sensitive information on the listserv. While this group is private, work on investigations should be handled between journalists in a more secure environment.

The list is not for ideological discussions, letter writing, lobbying or personal attacks. There are many other discussion groups and social media platforms for that.

Judgements about individuals’ character, motivations, or professional skills will not be tolerated and will be grounds for removal from the listserv. In general, be courteous, respectful and professional.

Please note that joining this listserv requires use of your real name in the display name field (no pseudonyms allowed). When sending a message to the full list, please clearly identify yourself, by adding your full name, country and affiliation/freelance status.

Policy on Diversity

GIJN is a strong believer in diversity and welcomes participants regardless of race, color, creed, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, citizenship status, or disability. Discrimination, sexual harassment, or other inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated and will be grounds for removal from the listserv.
