Electrical Input
My mast has a raceway behind the mainsail slide which can be used to run cable to the mast top. I am planning on using the raceway to wire a new mast light. The advantage is a tight fit to prevent banging with an exit under the light. The disadvantage is that for about 2 feet below the slide bottom the cable will be exposed on its route to the cabin roof. The cable sheathing is gray and blends in. It is somewhat held in position by the boom gooseneck and will add a high and low clip to keep it tidy. The option is to run the cable within the mast through a hole that exits and use zip ties to restrain the cable from banging. I favor using the raceway and keeping the mast open for another possible device. Has anyone used the raceway with the short section of exposed cable? Thanks, Tom Hull 147 |

I use the raceway since last year for the VHF wire. It is a 7mm wire and it works excellent. No noise and easy to install.I have a cable connector between the goose neck an the deck, to disconnect it. Would do it any time again. Good luck. While the raceway is prob fine, I like the idea of cabling being totally protected - particularly the 12v. It's quite easy to prevent rattling inside. We used some foam strips and left the cable tie tails long to act as offsets. Followed what I found when we did the mast refurb, and I'm guessing that had been in place since the dawn of time. It's protected from elements so no issues. a s/v Miracle 1980 Flicka On Fri, Sep 9, 2022 at 2:15 AM Daniel Roeder <info@...> wrote:

Thanks for the reply. Curious, what type of disconnect did you use?

Thanks, Antonio. I have the VHF wire already routed in the mast with ties. It is not a large dia cable and was still difficult to pull through the mast hole especially with the SMS connector. The cable for the mast light is much thicker and fishing it through its hole would be huge challenge so will use the raceway. Will pay attention to seal the top where the raceway abuts the mast cap plate. By the way, I bought the cable from Pacer and it is a high-quality product coupled with great service. Same with the VHF cable from MPD Digital. Would use each outfit again.

To deaden the sound of internal wiring in #302 Dulcinea's mast, I used "pool noodles" purchased at Walmart and secured with zip ties. It has been very effective. It appears in the September 2020 issue #71 of Flicka Friends on page 60.
