Hello Christine! (for the love of god I cannot figure out how to reply on that website, and can barely post here either so not even sure if anyone will even see this – can one reply to these emails?!) OMG Welcome!! Congrats!! Whooo Hooo!!! I am on the west coast of BC, in Vancouver!! And then there is another lady (Mary I think) in Sooke with her boat too!! Eventually we will all sail together for sure!!! “Flicka Friends Fun Festival” and then get all the Port Townsend boats to join! And: i too am a big coward now in solo sailing mine: it took three times (even left it overnight to calm down, and think and be sure the tiller port turns boat stbd…!) trying to move two fingers over at my marina…fin keel maneuverable she ain’t!! lol, and in 25kn winds, geez!!! Love to see your boat (it is the “My Friend”, right?!) just let me know and we can meet up! We can sail around in Georgia Straight and get to learn her handling with two of us too, totally with you there!! 😉 (is your slip in the Rowing Club?!) Thank you! Hi Christine, Welcome to the Flicka family! I'm sure you will love your boat and you can be assured that she is a very well built little vessel. You can sail her about anywhere. You will find that the Flicka will do very well in 25 knots of wind and will take care of you in heavy weather. Best of luck with your new boat. Charlie Charles S. I was wondering if there are any Flicka owners that would be interested in offering their Flicka sailing knowledge and experience as I don't yet have the confidence to sail mine solo in anything above 10-15 knots. I have some cruising experience growing up on the East coast of Australia on cats and a 20ton cutter, and some solo sailing experience on a Cal 25 and Nash 26, but this little gem has me unsure of my abilities. Ideally, I would like to feel the confidence from a competent Flicka owner - day sails, passage? I am on the West Coast of Canada, but now that the border is opening, and I'm fully vaccinated I can go anywhere. Thank you in advance, Chris

Thanks for helping out Antonio, I replied to all privately via the 'Private' button bottom right. Where are you located/hull number/year? I am on Vancouver Island and new owner of 1978 Flicka - complete with the original grapes in the scrollwork - steady hand to repaint lol. Where have you sailed your Flicka and strongest winds you've experienced? Thanks, Chris

Hullo Chris,
Our boat came from NE but we found her on Chesapeake Bay. We’ve taken her down to NC (inshore) and up to northern end of bay.
We have 1980 #165 IIRC.
I reckon we’ve had her in mid 20s and near 30 but not higher. With 2nd reef in and 110 jib reefed to 90 or so, she’ll settle down. That said, tho people say a Flicka will do fine in really heavy conditions, I have to admit we’re happiest 8-15, maybe 20. On the bay the waves/crazy confused-seas are notorious (I’ve heard more than one experienced blue water cruiser say the only time they’ve been worried was on the bay) and she can take a beating. But yes, I imagine it’d be hard to get in too much trouble… I just don’t want the stress of pounding for extended periods of time.
Great boats! And btw, love your area. We try to make it up once a year as our son is in bellingham :-) a
