Fan problem

Leif Nordin

When the fan in my FTDX101D spins up there is a pronounced noise from
the fan.
It lasts for just a second, after that the fan i more or less quiet, no
chirping.
Anyone else experiencing the same? Any cure? I find it very annoying!

New firmware, but DNR is bad

Harry-PA2HP

Yesterday I updated the new firmware. But it seems very much that the dnr has gotten worse. Sounds very much like a waterfall now and the value (1 low-15 high) seems to be wrong. Are there several who have experienced this? Can you somehow go back to the previous firmware?

Important first to format SD card from Ftdx101xx, to save your setup, this will create Ftdx101 directory with 3 sub directory Capture MemList Menu.
Now you will need to extract  the ZIP file on your computer or directly on SD card. I prefer the first. This will unzip software package and 2x PDF files.
Open this FTdx101 directory and you will see 4x files .SFL. You copy all these x.SFL files inside the SD card FTdx101 directory.
To work the radio needs the SUB directory files to work (capture memList Menu).
Select SD Card Firmware update, it will take 5-10 seconds to read them, click on Update +/-4 minutes to complete.
Always turn off your radio to connect or to remove your SD card.

Re: FT8 FULL DUTY CYCLE BANG !

Hi Jeff,

Well, firstly if you do not have chirping and bomb dropping sounds coming out of your radio the mod in question is irrelevant and your 101 will be just fine with cooling.

I'm not sure exactly what the mod is for the fan to stop chirping. However, I do know the problem is specifically the fan circuitry that begins to resonate when the fan is speeding up or slowing down. The mod for this stopped the chirping but caused the fan to operate incorrectly and temperature to increase up to 100 +

Yaesu acknowledged the issue and sent my local shop the mod pack, which was basically some resistors. This fixed the problem. Everything OK now... no chirping, and great cooling.

Obviously there were no charges for the mods, just a bit of inconvenience.

Hope that clarifies what happened...

Eric

Hi All,

I am experiencing the same problems as Jim, N6DVR.  Have tried different SD cards, both SD and SDHC.  Card has been formatted on the FTDX 101D and I have tried dragging the files onto the SD card but no joy in updating the firmware.

Any ideas would be welcome.

I too, have downloaded, then extracted the files, then placed them in the file, as described in the instructions.
But, when I try to update firmware, I get
“V——(No such file)”.

Any ideas on what I’m doing wrong? Thanks!

Hello Jim

Only the update-files on the SD-card, NO back-up files from MEM and MENU.

I'm happy to report that the new firware has fixed two of the spectrum-scope issues I previously reported. Specifically, the issues related to the displayed signal disappearing or distorting when the RX in use was switched off i.e. when the user looks at the signal but doesn't listen. This seems OK now.

There is still an issue whereby the displayed signal appears to vary in frequency as the cursor is tuned over it - this is predominent in CW mode, using CURSOR display with a small SPAN value. I guess it must be harder to fix but I can live with it.

Did you format the SD-card first  from within the ftdx101d?

Re: FTdx101MP

Just drag the 4 sfl files and drop them on your SD.

You can try to place the zip file directly on SD Card and then unzip the single files under the right place.

And retry

I agree with John, the DNR is more usable for me now.

From what I can tell so far, the Noise Reduction control now seems more linear, steadily increasing in noise reduction as you go from level 1 to level 15. I was hopeful, too. But not surprised it wasn't addressed.

I thought the following fix item #4 might have been related to your issue:
"4.  When CW keying speed is 45 wpm or more, QSK DELAY TIME (time setting from the transmit operation to actual transmission of the radio wave) is fixed to 15 msec."

My WinKeyer issue is similarly unresolved where keying becomes a straight carrier with the rear CW jack, while key is normal with the front CW jack

Seems that the link on the web site is the old f/w.  BUT if you open the PDF file and follow the link on the PDF, it's the new one.  Worked fine here...
