Re: High swr modification/fix failed

Hi Lou, yes its a known issue with the MP, Yaesu have issued a modification which apparently will be released soon to the public according to someone on this forum, unfortunatly it seems its not a complete fix, I am waiting for the engineer to get back to me next week but it looks like the radio will have to go back again, to be honest I will not be buying Yaesu again, so far this radio has had the finals fail and this swr tuner issue, although its a nice radio part of me thinks I should have got the 890

Rx audio on rear USB from both rx'ers

Glenn VK4DU

Hello all

I am an experienced WSPR user, and have been trying to get it going on the 101.  Got the rear USB connected up, driver good, audio going into the WSPR program at the right level....but no decodes..

Investigated, and it turns out that the rear USB send rx audio from both rx'ers....turned 1 rx off, and all good.  Decoding fine.

I dug through the manual, and can't find a way to switch the rx audio from one rx off on the USB port...

If I could switch the rx audio off, I could dedicate one rx to WSPR, and use the other one for CW...

Ideas?

You need to know what first was the swr on 10 m if it was designed to found a match or not.

Re: Auto Antenna Tuner - MP

I probably explained it wrong too.
If your SteppIr antenna is tuned to send a 1: 1 image, your 101 Tuner will tune for the first time to make the correct adjustment, but if there is 1: 1, it means that your antenna impedance is correct.
So it will go into Bypass mode while being activated, as long as you do not start again a forced tuning of the tuner.
Because in his memory, it is recorded that the last time the agreement was OK.
Except if you distort the system while being with your SteppIr out of tune, the tuner will not know it, without again restarting the measurement and forced adjustment.
I want to understand that the 101 is not perfect, like other RIGs, but you should not look for the defect where there is none.

And I confirm, max tuner possibility is 3:1, you can read this in your user manual...

Re: Auto Antenna Tuner - MP

Yes.  I haven't quantified it, but there is an SWR threshold above which it will refuse to tune.  It'll click, and immediately quit.  It worked for me around SWR 3.5 on a few occasions, but of course it won't remember the tune.  I figure it's only rated for 3, so going much beyond that is pushing things.  The currents and voltages experienced in the ATU can go up at greater mismatches.  My other rig's ATUs are also only rated for 3.  Elecraft's internal ATUs are a notable exceptions.

I believe over 3:1 rig flashes High SWR and doesn't adjust.

This information regarding the 2:1 SWR minimum to trigger the antenna tuner is helpful - thanks.
Perhaps I was not clear in the description of my experiment to see if the tuner was working or not.
I will try again.
On 12 meters, I tuned up both the SteppIR and the MP and had 1.1:1  SWR.
I then did the same on 30 meters, again achieving 1.1:1 SWR on 30 meters.
I chose 12 and 30 meters hoping that harmonically they would be different enough to see a difference when I switched between them.
I went back to 12 meters, but this time leaving both the SteppIR and the MP tuned to 30 meters, and with both the MP tuner and the autotrack off.  For those unfamiliar with the SteppIR, autotrack automatically readjusts the SteppIR as one changes frequency - one can turn it on or off.
Into this purposely mistuned system, the SWR was high, as expected.
I then turned the antenna tuner on in the MP expecting the wheels to turn to try to make a match on 12 meters.
Nothing heard from the MP and the SWR remained high.
Was it because the SWR was over 5 that the MP did not even try to make a match, or do I have a problem?

I am currently of the same mind of Bria.
The thing that worries me is tha even on the videos of the Yaesu Ftdx10 i found the same limits.
We just have to wait, but i thing with regret that i will buy another brand.
Best regards

Hi all,
Wait and see !!!

And be carefull, at this speed, your can be arrived before starting !!!

Or maibee, put your postulate to YAESU R&D, it's probably better for you for future...

…. hard to disagree with you Brian GW4BVD !

Into his message Franco said "However, I had received an email from Yaesu confirming the release "in days” “ , I feel it would be interesting  to know more details about the answer he received from Yaesu, for example when he got that mail or better the whole mail text (if possible)

Don’t hold your breath – Yaesu have proved themselves to be negligent in supporting the product and their current userbase – At the very least shameful. I’ll not be buying Yaesu in the future !!!

Re: No RIT (RX CLAR) on 60m :-(

If you're in Italy, that may well be.  The standard US versions will only tx on 60m using five CW and five USB  fixed pre-programmed channels that don't allow tuning the RX, TX, RIT or XIT.  In the US, we are only allowed to use these channels and at restricted power levels.  However, AFAIK, the law does not require rigs to be channelized and the FCC leaves it to the op to ensure he's in compliance.  Despite this, Yaesu chose to channelize the US rigs on 60m and remove control from the op. Even if channelizing was required, there still is no reason that I can see to disable RIT.

It's not a problem I've had or know much about.  Is it a D or MP?   Who did the repair and in which country, Yaesu or some other shop/dealer?  It's still under warranty, correct?

I can't fathom Yaesu's thinking, but since my first post, I found a workaround.  Set the MAIN to a 60m channel, and use the SUB RX for receiving. TX is locked into the channel but you're free to tune around with the SUB RX and use RIT.  It works the other way too, with the SUB set to a channel for TX and RX with the MAIN.

Hi everyone, so I got my radio back last week after it went for repair to fix issued by Yaesu the high swr when using the tuner, unfortunately it has not completely fixed the problem, it is not longer doing it on the lower bands but the issue still remains on 10 meters, I am awaiting a call from the shop to see what happens next, I am wondering if the radio has an undiagnosed fault or whether the fix issued is not a complete solution, any advice from the forum and fellow hams would be greatly appreciated.

Lou, I was not aware of that function being disabled. I wonder why Yaesu has thought to do this?  - Mike

Been making some Qs on 60m and one thing I find odd is that RX CLAR (RIT) is disabled when using the 5 CW and 5 USB preprogrammed channels.  I was working an op on 60m cw and his tx freq drifted down maybe 150-200 Hz...still within the channel and I would have liked to be able to use RIT to keep him centered in the narrow filters I was using due to the amount of band noise I typically experience on 60.  As it was, I used the shift control to keep the filters on him, but the pitch was getting rather high.  I understand they program fixed channels and disable TX CLAR (XIT) to prevent accidentally straying from the freqs, but I can see no reason for RX CLAR (RIT) to be disabled.
