Re: RTTY PSK KEYBOARD FUNCTION

Barry D. Jacobson

Hi Dirk, thanks. I am trying my best to learn this massive program and get familiar with the interface, but taking a while.

One thing that still confuses me is that when I first got MMTTY working as a standalone, I set Ext FSK64 to use Com4 (standard port). It began working and I was happy. But then when I went to N1MM+ to integrate it, Your settings showed to use Com5 (enhanced port) for bidirectional radio control. That also worked well. But underneath you checked Com4 CW and Digital boxes. However, N1MM+ started complaining that Com4 was already in use (presumably by MMTTY) and would not be used until it became free. Things did work with N1MM+ using Com5 and MMTTY using Com4, and the N1MM+ macros working in MMTTY. But as a perfectionist I want to understand if that is what is supposed to happen, or if N1MM+ is supposed to take control of both ports and subdelegate tasks to MMTTY.

For this weekend's CW contest, I assume that N1NM+ will use 5 for radio control and 4 for CW generation. I hope having previously assigned 4 to MMTTY won't come back to haunt me with a conflict. I hope there is a way to turn it off, as will not be needed for CW.

Was looking out for you last weekend, but didn't see your call on my screen.

All the best,

Barry WA2VIU

in n1mm+ you have a decode window ,  there a are two spaces.   Above is the receiving window  where you can read the decoded signal.

Under is the tx window , you can type in.    Click on the tx  buttom ,  this buttom is next to the rx one.     In tx you can type your text.

Yes they can at 35 wpm but many cannot well copy their call signs reducing their final scores.
Sometime those calling at +32 wpm will be the only way to break the pile-up with a different side tone 3-5 Hz up,,, 1-2 call will do it.

The code reader on the FTDX101D is probably well over 75% accurate when set properly to match speed. Need to use high threshold to get rid of garbage, and assuming strong signal.

Honestly guys, can the contesters here copy a call and exchange sent once at 35 wpm, or are they cheating and using a code reader? I know I find it challenging and usually do Search and Pounce so I have his info from the previous guy before I call him.

Hi, in N1MM+ with MMTTY I think it is Ctrl-K to begin and ESC to end.

I believe what someone mentioned here Ctrl-K is correct, then ESC to stop. I didn't need it but seems to work. I will write up my experience using RTTY first time in the contest in near future. Things worked great with all the help I got from the guys here. Thanks to all.

UPDATE FTDX101D FTDX101MP CAT REMOTE & SPLITTER

Frank

HI

Available today update

the mini app to control the FTDX101 via CAT from a local PC or remotely and have all the most used cmd immediately under control without having to enter the menu.

Very useful on the local PC or even remotely with many useful immediate commands and full multi meter together and in real time.

(...)
Also improved the scroll of the VFO with the MOUSE wheel (!!!) or of an external "USB VFO", which uses VFO A or VFO B or together with VFO A + B...
It is also possible to control up to 3 external hardware type 1kFA and above all, the TX frequency and not the RX frequency is always available between
RADIO and PA or ATU or ANTENNA or other, thus avoiding possible working problems in SPLIT between TX and RX always on the TX frequency!

Many other UPDATE news that you find in the file history.txt:

radioclub.no-ip.org/ftdx101cat/history.txt     (=> copy paste in to google translator)

Always available to add or change, waiting for FTDX101 firmware fixes ...

With your station Antennas, you could probably run a xtal set and do well.

Re: FTDX101MP and DxEngineering NCC2 with amplified rx antennas

Morgan Bailey

Keeping warm...LOL. I used to run a TenTec Titan. After about 4 hours of heavy CQing with CW or RTTY, I was down to no shirt and thinking about going down to TightyWhiteys. In the basement, I used to turn off the heat in the winter during contests and just use the Titan to heat the shack. When anyone opened the basement door they got blasted with hot air. Standard winter contesting garb was shorts and a tee shirt, no sox or shoes. The KPA1500 does not put out nearly enough heat so I bought an Acom 1000 even so, the Acom runs cool. It is the amp for Rig 2. Speaking of amps, If I had it to do all over again, I would probably buy an Acom 2100A instead of the Elecraft. The Fan Noise at full power is some what distracting but on the other hand it is not even a fraction of what the Flex PGXL produces.

Re: FTDX101MP and DxEngineering NCC2 with amplified rx antennas

You should get an SB220 amp. Will keep your shack warm.

I used to have an Elecraft K3S with second RX for diversity RX. It at best was OK, Marginally so. I bought the NCC2 System with amps and rx protectors inside the box on each channel. Hooking this up to the Elecraft was not a solution worth the money that I paid for it. It worked ok at best. Having dinked with the Elecraft and having to change cable positions inside the Elecraft to optimise the usage of this device did not make it a game changer. Yes I could tell a difference but at best it was marginal. I only used it on 160/80/40 meters. Yes the amplification was notable but it covered up the weak ones that I was trying to work.

Enter the FTDX101MP. First off the NCC2 is really a great piece of kit. It just has to be implemented well to work well. Sometimes with aging ears it is hard to tell much difference at times. With the 101 it is totally a different story. Fix antenna 3 for RX only. Sync the VFOs and input the output to the RX antenna port 3 dedicated to VFOB. Bring up the 2 S meters and graphic waterfalls/split screen view and immediately one is able to adjust the NCC2 for optimal reception. Plus the S meters show how the polarization fluctuates between the different antennas connected to VFOA and VFOB. This is easily viewed on the S meters and the waterfall background noise. Having VC tune on both VFOs with the MP version, is quite the game changer with diversity reception. Using the preamps in the NCC2 are great and adjusting the balance and phasing makes quite a difference when using diversity reception. Adjusting the VC tune for the weak ones not even visible on the water fall by knocking down noise is great. Living in the city, I have to deal with noise every day. My RX antennas are: DXE-ARAV4-2P. Hooking the PTT line to the NCC2 and then from the NCC2 to the Amp PTT input and setting the Keying delay to 30 ms in the 101 insures the preamps in the antennas are grounded and have no voltage input and the amp is not hot keyed. It works great. My receive antennas are vertically polarized, 2 of them, spaced 40 feet apart and 100 feet from any transmitting antenna. I can safely run 1500 watts and not torch the preamps in the antennas and with the recieve protectors in NCC2 when running SO2R the VFO2 RX front end is protected during second rig transmit when using diversity RX in rig one. The VFOB RX feed does not go through band pass filters as does VFOA in the primary radio. No diversity is used on Rig B because it is S&P or second CQ frequency. Only Rig One is used for diverstiy reception. The second RX is not used in Rig 2 with separate antenna inputs, so the all rx antenna input goes through the band pass filter stack because the RX and TX antennas are the same in Rig 2.

Just an update on shack construction here at NJ8M. Keep warm, it was -17 last night here in Kansas.
