Re: Steppir and DSA 100 Controller
Kenneth Waites <kenw817821@...>
Thanks for the info. I have the S18 on its way. I will test it when it gets here, then send in the SDA 100 for an update as required.
Quick service? BTW, I have never used HRD, but it seems it gets a lot of good press. But I gather there are still things that you have to touch the radio to do. Ken K5WK

Re: Diversity reception…just for fun
BILL KENNAMER
Actually, it is true diversity reception. You can separate the two receivers as John and I do, or you can use the menu and set to audio to feed both receivers into a mono audio line. That may be more what you’re looking for.

Forgot to say, there are more than one "Diversity".
It could be; spatial diversity, frequency diversity, polarization diversity, phase diversity, etc.

That is Diversity. It is in use for years on VHF repeaters, for example.
Anan is able to do "Phasing Reception", which is different (and better) than Diversity. Phasing two different signals, and letting you to change the phase angle, etc.

Re: Wiring external generic ATU to FTDX101D
Hi Josè
it seems it’s a mess, anyway I suggest you to have a look to FC-40 diagram maybe it helps. A friend of mine did some fast temptatives in the past but no good results were reached….then he gave up. I’m annexing here FC-40 TS Please let us known about results, I’d be very interested, thanks 73 Giorgio

Re: Steppir and DSA 100 Controller
Howard W6HDG <w6hdg@...>
Try asking SteppIR for a transceiver interface swap by mail to avoid having to send the whole unit in. Let them send you a good interface first to avoid having to open the SDA100 twice (wishful thinking?). They can send you the S18 cable at the same time if you don't already have one. I believe the FTdx101 allows you to use the db9 serial port simultaneously with the USB port you are already using for CAT and Audio.
Now...the following is way too much information, but maybe someone can use it. You wouldn't need to update the SDA100. I built an S16 cable which goes from the computer directly into the SteppIR, I used HRD Tools:3rd party serial port to send transceiver info. I believe other major software has a similar feature. Here are the instructions: You will need both a Steppir S16 serial cable (easy to build) as well as a Serial to USB adapter with a genuine FTDI chipset (or an available real COM port on the PC). The S16 cable plugs into the top Data in port on the SDA100 (see important note below) and the other end goes to the Serial to USB adapter or real COM Port. The COM port that gets assigned to the Serial to USB adapter or real COM Port is the port number you put into the HRD 3rd party serial port window (my window has "Enable" and "Connect when HRD starts" checked as well as COM1, None and 38400 entered). Mine is COM1 but yours will be different unless you buy a PCIe COM port card like I did. I built an "S16" cable (note that the "Data In SDA100 Side" has a jumper between pin 7 and 9). Just make sure that pin 2 and 3 are crossed over, 5 is straight through and 7 and 9 are shorted on the female side you are plugging into the SDA100 box "Data in/Radio" - the top connector. Go into SDA100 setup and make sure the baud rate for DATA IN is set to your serial port or USB Serial adapter baud rate. Make sure to set the protocol to KENWOOD. You must have HRD up and running the for SDA100 to begin tracking. S16 Diagram attached. Use standard db9 females and shells but mark the side with the 7 and 9 jumper "To Steppir Data In".

Wiring external generic ATU to FTDX101D
JC
Hello,
Need to connect a generic ATU (N7DDC 1000W) to the FTDX101D, the ATU's existing pins to force the TUNE manually are:
a.- TX Request
b.- GND
c.- /TX Request
Based on other tuners i.e. LDG, I understand that I have to take only "a" and "b" pins, right?
What about "c" option "/TX Resquest", what for?
Having a look into the radio onwer manual, Im wondering myself if
Either using any pin of the connection #22 "Tuner" ?, if so, wich ones?
or using the #15 "Linear" and then wiring the "#11-Tx Request" and "#2-TX GND"
Guess that connection "22 Tuner" is intended only to work with the FC40 external Tuner.
Am I right on the above?
Thanks for any advice.

Re: Steppir and DSA 100 Controller
Howard is correct, I had to send my unit in for an update. It would not track, it now does.
Be sure to tell them NOT to reset all. They did and did not ask me. I wound up having to reset all the bands. really ticked me off. Neil N4FN

Re: Steppir and DSA 100 Controller
Howard W6HDG <w6hdg@...>
I'm not sure if I'm correct but I believe the SDA100 transceiver interface needs a factory-only firmware update as there was an incompatibility issue with the FTdx101.
I connect through a dedicated PC COM Port and not to the rig itself, so I didn't have that issue.

Re: HRD update released v391 - big improvement
Michael Carper
We (HRD Software) have that one. It's track here (there are duplicates on it; just don't want to create more duplicates of the same bug report):
https://hamradiodeluxe.mantishub.io/view.php?id=3910 https://hamradiodeluxe.mantishub.io/view.php?id=3911 I'll end up getting rid of one of these as the work progresses... likely in the next release. Mike, WA9PIE

Re: HRD update released v391 - big improvement
I found yet another bug. Now when you print sheet labels, i.e. Avery 5160, you can no longer change the starting row or column. It always prints the 1st row, 1st column.
I've told tec. support about this. Burt WB4RA

Diversity reception…just for fun
I’m no longer a hardcore DXer or contest nut but have found two receivers very entertaining during my casual CW ragchews.
I use the ‘separate’ setting on my headphones and then sync Main and Sub receivers. I get a kick out of listening to my mag loop in my right ear and my inv vee in my left. Fun to listen to the signal shift back forth between antennas, going from one ear to the other. On the loop I use ATT off and IPO on Amp 1. On the inv vee I set ATT to 6 dB and IPO to IPO. For me, this levels the playing field between the two signal strengths making it easier to hear interesting propagation shifts between the two antennas. Lots of fun to be had with the FTdx101D/MP! IMHO, the Inrad headset is the best choice by far. I've owned them all. Heil sounds good but are poorly constructed. I would never by Heil again.

Re: Looking for headset w/boom mic.
I have one of the Radio Sport headsets with the boom mike. Very well built, it almost looks like a David Clark headset, and it's very comfortable.
Not cheap, but why cheap-out with a $4k radio. 73, Jim KQ0EA
