Re: Looking for info on the "Amphenol Stereo Commander"
looks to have all the right stuff - never heard of it though. I wonder if it's solid state?

I bought a Sansui receiver from Bob recently. He knows his stuff and the unit is pristine. I was most satisfied with the purchase and highly recommended him. R/ Jim

Harmon Kardon TU911 and TU911A
Hi. Pleasae note that it seems the difference between 911 and 911A, is that the former is FM only and the latter AM/FM. In the notes on tuners on FMtuners website, the difference is thought to be that

FS / Free, local pickup only
Hi All;
If anyone is willing to pickup gear locally, I am currently doing a minor clean of the basement, and would be willing to sell, or even give away items for less than 1/2 what you normally would

Re: Sansui TU-9900 Resistors upgrade
I have made a lot of work on the TU-9900, look at my restoration work here: https://www.threshold-lovers.com/2019/02/07/sansui-tu-9900/ and use the bottom right "Translate" button to get it in

Hi Ralph
Probably not the easiest to do. Go with your ears: remove the Marantz, replace with the Sony, press on.
From what little I could find on the net, both are microprocess controlled. Reprogram

Re: Old tuners, modern equipment?
It looks like the TX-6800 tuner is similar. It has the PA3001A detector chip and PA1001A Multiplex chip like the SX580. Both are 3 gangs and 2 ceramic

I just finished hotrodding a Pioneer SX580 receiver for a friend. When I got done recapping it and aligning it, the FM didn't have overly impressive quieting. I thought it may have been due to HD

I don't know about your Marantz, but your typical AV receiver tuner has a 3 gang front end, an IF section consisting of two 180 khz filters, and an AM/FM chip that contains all the functions that used

Re: Sansui TU-9900 Resistors upgrade
John,
I second your choice of Vishay CMF/RN resistors. Have not tried the Beyschlags, though from a quick glance over at Mouser, they seem extremely inexpensive, even in high precision flavor.

Hi NounoursX2,
The salient point of the observation was that IMO & based on having done 3 9900s the OEM resistors were all to often out of spec. The power supply was particularly problematic, heat

No surprise here. A recaped & aligned ST-J75 (the ST-J60's big brother) is my long-term keeper of all the tuners I've owned over the past 30yr. Superbly quiet background and great SQ. The 60 is likely

Re: Old tuners, modern equipment?
Check the input/output sensitivity on both . The Sony's output is 750mV the Marantz input is 130mV so I would say the Sony will be playing loud . I read you can upgrade the op-amp in Sony for better

Re: Old tuners, modern equipment?
An obvious case of specs/numbers don’t mean everything. The parts in your Sony are probably a much better grade, too.
