Re: Emco Compact 5 CNC Stepper Driver Wiring
>>Scenario 1 - Replace all the electronics with a new motion controller, stepper drivers and steppers. I could also add another power supply to run the new hardware and leave the old supply for the spindle motor, but in studying the schematics and specs on the supply, I believe the existing power supply would run the new steppers and drivers just fine. Has anyone used the original power supply in this way, or does anyone have any suggestions either negative or positive about this idea?
This is what I did. The steppers I put in were much stronger than the originals that I found were really weak. I used a breakout board and Mach3, though I suppose now a Pokeys with Mach4 would give perfect threads, or so I'm told, mine is still on Mach3. I used the old supplies, there's lots of current capability there. I don't use it often, but the motors are very strong when I do and things work very well. Mine still runs on the printer port of an old computer. It was used to develop Mach3's threading originally.
