Sidetone volume low - rear phones jack only. front is OK.

A friend is using the K3 and has a problem. The front panel phones jack is working properly - both in sidetone and radio volumes. But the sidetone volume in the rear phones jack is low, and the radio volume there is normal. Just checking to see if anyone else may have had a similar issue. (I searched the archives but didn't see this particular issue).
Thanks, and 73, John W2XS

I'd never checked mine until now.  In doing so, I find both the front and rear PHONES locations to have the same level for the receiver and sidetone.   No issue here.
I trust one is using the same headphones for front and rear tests.  Perhaps a connector cleaning is in order.  However, this does not explain why there is a difference in front and rear connectors.  It would seem the same audio is fed to each one.

Possibly a volume control inline on the rear?
That’s what I have

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. But I've been told that the same set of headphones have been tried in both the front and rear and that only the rear jack has lower sidetone volume. (It's there, but lower in volume). I'll have to search the schematics to see if I can find where the sidetone is injected into the receiver audio, and if there is a difference between the front and rear headphone jacks.
Receiver volume = same in front and rear headphone jacks. Sidetone volume = lower only in the rear.
