This might be heresy, but I didn't find anything in the book worth paying for. Just about any of us should have the rigs mastered in the first month and should be able to write the book. I feel very let down for the low low price of $60 shipped, give or take.

Granted, there’s nothing “new” in the Caddy book, but the advantage is that it’s like the “cliff-notes” of the operating manual. The small size, coated paper and bindings allow it to take a lot more abuse in the field than the full sized Elecraft manual. However, for way under 60 bucks, I think I can make my own mini-manual if I need it. 73, Charlie k3ICH

I have purchased multiple versions of the
K3s/P3 publication, et al. After he passed, I went and found
the latest/last versions of all applicable publications and
purchased them...
The latest version of the K3s/P3 eBook is available right now
for $25.00.
Printing and binding costs money. If you want someone to print
and bind the book for you, then pay for it.
Alternatively, download the eBook and print it yourself using
Acrobat DC.... Use good paper and you can print it 2-sided with
borders sufficient for 3-hole punching on the left of each page,
reducing your paper needs by half.
A loose leaf version in a binder with all the Elecraft docs is
more useful/easier to use anyway. OR you can learn to bind it
yourself...
Otherwise, how about you squeak when you walk cheapsters quit
whining.
I STILL find useful information in Fred's books EVERY time I
re-read them. NO ONE is forcing you to buy the Cady book.

Elecraft's manuals are very helpful and I really appreciate them; contrasted with manuals from other radio manufacturers they are excellent.
Fred Cady's books give a different angle to what Elecraft offers and have been a great help for me. Someone mentioned size and durability which add to their value.
Nowhere did I see a $60 price.
The Cady books are in line with Elecraft's high values.

If you choose to print it (harder to search for trivia but old
school still rocks); use at least 22 bond paper (takes a beating
better than the typical office paper) and put it into a folder,
WITH your notes, settings AND the firmware(s) update comments.
Then it's all in one place (as well as your computer), so you can
misplace it more conveniently.

Since you quoted me I'll respond. I got the $60 from somebody who participated in this topic. I assumed he knew what the price of the book was/is since he seemed to be an owner.. I've never bought a K3 manual. I found the manual provided by Elecraft to be sufficient and the K3 wasn't my first radio so I found much to be intuitive.
If $25 is the actual cost I still wouldn't buy it but not for cost reasons. I simply didn't need a supplement to the user manual. A good book can be priceless. My copy of the "Intelligent Investor" would be one of those books.

I don't mean to sound like I'm knocking you or anybody else. That was far from my intent so I apologize. To the others that responded, yeah, it was sixty bucks. It's not a bad book, but it's very basic. I also did buy one of those spiral bound "Nifty" guides with the laminated paper. I guess I outgrew it quickly because I haven't seen it since I bought it. Gotta dig it up so I can keep it with the go kit.
That said, I do find myself referring to the manual (online, pdf version) from time to time because I need to know a specific detail on a menu setting or how an input works. That "line in" really threw me off when I plugged in a DR-7800 pactor modem. The rig refuses to take input from the sound card! Why? I solved the problem by moving the connector over to the unused microphone input on the back and carried on with life instead of hacking up the input board.

approaches. That said, there IS information in the Cady Books
that is not in the Elecraft manuals, or not covered in detail
sufficiently. As I said, to this day, I still find new to

The man bought the printed book. The man
bought the printed book from a seller who had purchased the book
from the publisher or other upline distribution network. The
seller understandably marked the item up in order to make a
profit.
The man added shipping into the selling price of the book to
intentionally inflate the apparent price.
The man CHOSE to purchase the book for $45 plus shipping. No
ONE held a gun to his head.
The book was available elsewhere in different
formats at a significant savings.
The man apparently was expressing buyers remorse and implying

I hope we're not talking about me. I was very clear about it costing $60 shipped. That means including shipping. It required spending $60 (well, $63) to get it from Elecraft to my door. The book was not available directly from Fred due to whatever voodoo he worked out with the mother ship. And to be specific since you guys seem to like to nitpick, I don't equate a file on a computer with a book. They may contain the same information but one isn't a book. Remember those things? They're made out of paper and similar materials. Sometimes stone, but generally those are referred to as tablets.
Anyway, this has degenerated into a solid no signal all noise thread.

I have purchased multiple versions of the K3s/P3 publication, et al. After he passed, I went and found the latest/last versions of all applicable publications and purchased them...
The latest version of the K3s/P3 eBook is available right now for $25.00.
Printing and binding costs money. If you want someone to print and bind the book for you, then pay for it.
Alternatively, download the eBook and print it yourself using Acrobat DC.... Use good paper and you can print it 2-sided with borders sufficient for 3-hole punching on the left of each page, reducing your paper needs by half.
A loose leaf version in a binder with all the Elecraft docs is more useful/easier to use anyway. OR you can learn to bind it yourself...
Otherwise, how about you squeak when you walk cheapsters quit whining.
I STILL find useful information in Fred's books EVERY time I re-read them. NO ONE is forcing you to buy the Cady book.
