Did you try just working the buttons a lot. I was able to isolate the flaky button and restore operation by just pressing it a hundred or so times.

I have used heat shrink tubing. I have also just filled the of the connectors with liquid rubber that extends out along the wire a bit.

Bill It's not a tuner issue. On "tune" my K3 reports 7 watts out on all bands except 30 m, where it reports 0.0 watts out. The power meter confirms no output.
