Been a week now since I filled out and sent the tech request form in.  Also emailed tech support and nothing yet.

To touch this one again

after cleaning, checking/working windows, etc.
WSJT did publish an issue similar on their mail reflector, although don't see that mentioned in release notes.

HARDWARE issue, bad/flakey connection at sound card output jack.
is it the jack or cable, yes one or both. Both will get replaced....
Perhaps different model sound card, well not a U7
Now whenever WSJT no longer has audio to rig, first thing is mess with cable near external sound card, so far - fixes it!

BTW, the next release of WSJT-X is out 2.4.0 which includes new Q65 mode.... good luck

If one keeps their windows clean and washed on a regular basis, you'll see things much clearer. And you'd be surprised how much money I've made repairing appliances.

Regarding windows clean and washed, I am referring to regular computer maintenance and house keeping. Just like a vehicle, don't maintain it and it will leave you stranded on the side of the road.

More info, I had catastrophic antenna faliure at the time (tree branch grounded the antenna and it arced, burning through the wire). I assume the PA module is fine because the other HF bands are working fine?!?! What's 50mhz specific that could have overheated? LPF? What else?

help: k3 6m power out

Greg Mitchell

I was just working ft8 on 6 meters (K3+KPA500+KAT500). SWRs were in the green (<1.5:1) on the kat500/kpa500 meters. All of a sudden, the tuner cut off the amp and went into tuning cycle. I shutdown transmit, but now I get no power out on 50 mhz (trying into dummy load). I do get power out on the other bands. Ideas?

Joe, W4TV, the roofing filter will affect the transmit audio??
Yes, if the offset is not correct it will cut off he highs or
lows depending on the error *and sideband* (160/8040 vs 20 and
up).

Have him turn the power down to about 5 watts then start talking.  As he talks increase the power and see if the distortion starts at about 12-14 watts.  If so there is a problem with the pa module.

Try TX into a dummy load and monitor with a second receiver external to the K3.

How close to the rig is the antenna?

All components properly bonded to a common point?

A friend has a K3 and we have been trying determine why his transmit audio sound nasally, hollow, and somewhat distorted. We switched microphones.. an MXL dynamic and an Audio Technica condenser with no difference. Both are good mics. He reset the EQ which only has the expected result in audio band changes.

To me it sounds like he is lacking mids and at low amplitude seems to drop out completely. I was wondering if it could be the downward expander but he says that is switched OFF.

My thoughts are RFI getting into one or more audio connections, PA bias adjustment or other defect.

An interesting note, when he connects the audio line out to his computer for a Skype connection, his monitored audio sounds fine. It's just when it gets trasmitted over the air that the audio is slightly distorted.. nasally and not full.

Hi Bob,

R22 in my 2KW sensing unit for my W2 which is in the sensing circuit and runs to ground smoked the other day.  I have no idea why and it happened suddenly on 20 meters FT8 at 100 watts.  I think I could try to replace it but I imagine it's a precision resistor and the sensor will need to be calibrated.  So I think I will need to send it in for repair - just waiting to hear from tech at Elecraft.
