Re: K3 transverter connector question

Chris Cox, N0UK

Good morning, Colin.

I wasn’t aware of that. I thought that I got to enter both the I/F and the equivalent R/F frequencies when defining a transverter configuration. I don’t have the internal Elecraft transverter. I was going to interface the rig with my old DownEast Microwave 144 to 28 MHz transverter.

Good day.

I am considering recrystalling my 2m transverter with a 118MHz rock replacing the existing 116MHz crystal, thereby permitting full two metre band coverage with a 26-30MHz I/F.

Does the K3 need to be widebanded to enable low-level 26-28MHz RF on the transverter transmit port or is the low-level output available by default?

Hi, I need to change the Power pot on the front panel, does anyone know where these are available if Elecraft are no longer supporting the K3?

thanks

I have been sour because the schematics for K-POD were not available either.

That has been thankfully corrected, schematic is now published, and it has helped in integrating the thing in the setup I have.

But can't get the actual state...
Use the DS command and look at bit 4 of the last byte.

I checked with Matt Adrian in Michigan, SARS   an ICOM warranty center

they do service 718 under warranty  and they do have parts .....

You guys are dreaming.

No ham manufacturer carries board assembly level spares and accessories for 5 years after production, much less 20.  Elecraft still repairs the radios, thus, they are supported.  Nothing requires that you throw them away.  Nothing is a brick.  Elecraft never made any promise beyond what they are doing.  You can buy all the components level parts and fix it yourself, or you can send it in.

Please name another manufacturer that does any better.  Certainly not Kenwood, Icom, Yaesu, TenTec.  Not Alpha.  Not SIgnal/One.  Not Flex.  Anything Chinese?  Hardly.  Nor Drake, Heath, Hallicrafters, Hammerlund, National, Globe, Eldico, Eico.  Even Collins had limits.  Who are you going to buy from?

Sure, I would like them to carry every part, forever, but it is an unreasonable expectation. Elecraft is a bit better than most, they gave a last buy warming and a sign up sheet.  Tell me who else even did that?

I'm not a fanboy.  My K3 is not even my favorite transceiver,, merely a pretty good one.  But the attacks here are unfair to a company trying to do its best, while making a profit.  A profit, by the way, is requred to stay in business.  Do all of you work for free?

Thank you Keith. That confirms what I was concluding.

Is there a design value for the Q4 and Q5 quiescent current?

Their MOSFET datasheet has them operating at 0.5 amps, but that seems way too high for the K3’s power out and heatsinking.

To All;
To clarify, I do my 3-finger test with the bottom cover OFF and I do NOT Transmit, just TAP xmit to turn the Bias ON.
In 10-15 seconds the test is over as good devices will get hot fast.
The cover ON and going into full TX test is valid, just takes longer and a bit harder to tell what is happening.

Chet, the device getting hot is the GOOD one! It is making RF and doing its job.
Q2, the driver, should also heat, but it is doing less work. If you are getting RF, Q2 is probably fine.
***The two finals Q4&5 are in parallel and should heat EVENLY! I would replace yours, re-bias and re-run the 5w tx gain calibration.

You can emulate any front panel button sequences with the MN command.  See page 17/18 of the programming manual.

command available to switch on/off internal ATU?

DL1AKP OM Andy

Hell folks,

is there a command available for switching the internal ATU on or off via CAT?
I looked in the programmers reference and it seems to me there isn't?

Does anyone know exactly?
