I highly recommend Fred Cady's K3 book,it will be the best money you ever spent to learn about a K3. Unfortunately Fred is a SK.

Thanks Carl, very interesting, I was unaware of your software.

One question: Does the K3 remember that non-standard IF when used stand-alone at a later date - e,g, when out /P? 73, Colin G4CWH

I checked the K3 and Cady books and there doesn't appear to be any way of doing what you want. You can set the band, but not a particular offset in the band. Unfortunately the offset provided is only correctional and won't shift far enough for your purpose.

That is the question! But how? I can only set 28.0, or 50.0. Etc

Its possible I’m missing something obvious. Please have a go and tell me what you find 😊

Hi Ray,

I built the transverter. If you run the LO at 42 MHz then 28.0 is the IF, but there is a bad spurious, its in the math. Which is why I then modified it to 42.5 all those years ago.
I do think the answer lies in altering the K3 internal math, or putting up with having to subtract 500 kHz.

Hi Hank, setting TECH MD to off won't impact any of the options/settings you see when TECH MD is on. So you are good to go. Your K3EXREF will still lock to your external 10mhz GPSDO source. TECH MD off just hides the more advanced settings and nothing more. Max NG7M

I have the K3EXREF kit but I haven't installed it yet, maybe this would provide some guidance? What level is your 10Mhz signal?

Colin….. You need to change the Transverter Oscillator Frequency. Most likely a Crystal, or if a Newer DDS Oscillator, the Frequency it is running at. Try to find the Make and model on the internet to get the Data / Information About your Transverter…….. Ray WA6VAB

K3EXREF questions for use after setup
HB
Hey Folks...
I just finished building the QRP-Labs ProgRock/Synth kit and their QLG1 GPS receiver to discipline it. It works quite well. I have it connected to the K3EXREF input on my K3s. I followed the instructions and according to the instructions, my K3s is receiving a signal (by the flashing * while in the REF CAL menu). In order to activate the input, I had to set the TECH MD to "on". If I turn the TECH MD back to "off", the REF CAL menu goes away. Is the K3EXREF still using the 10Mhz input from my kit or do I have to leave TECH MD "on"? If it works with the TECH MD set to "off", how do I know it's working? Or do I just need to occassionally check by turning TECH MD "on" and go to the REF CAL menu? The instructions aren't clear. Thanks, Hank K4HYJ K3s, P3, KX3

Alternative transverter IF
Colin Smithers
Hi all,
I'm New here. Does anyone know how to set a transverter IF to 28.5MHz, or any other frequency that is not 28,0, 50,0 etc? The incremental oscillator shift only goes so far i think. Reason is I built a 70 MHz transverter from 28.5 as using 28.0 results in a a difficult spurious product. If not I can always continue to subtract .5 in my head as i have done for the last 35+ years :-) (Also sent to the elecraft group) Thanks and 73, Colin G4CWH

No, I suspect it is a spammer. This same (or very similar) email address has been used to spam two other groups.io groups that I monitor. Note the lack of a signature.
