Same here... I was under the impression Elecraft was going to do component level repair as well.

This is quite concerning considering there was a thread prior where Eric or Wayne said they "would" be doing component level repair.

So I sent another email asking when they would be getting the boards. So yesterday Evening I received an email and was told that I needed to put my name on their list for boards.

So after yesterday’s email I took a look at the schematic for the KIO3B board and there is a integrated device on the USB input “TUSB2036” which is a 32 pin device. The cost for a TUSB2036 is $3.25 at Mouser. Apparently Elecraft do not repair boards and just replace them. My thinking is if they are not able to get replacement boards then why don’t they repair them?

I have asked them to return the board, as I plan on trying to replacing the TUSB2036 myself. I have a hot air rework station and will try to replace the device and hope it works-out? At this point I am so discussed with Elecraft that I am thinking about canceling the K4 that I have on order and buying something else.

Re: Amplified audio from K3/K4

Bob McGraw - K4TAX

In audio, unless power is being transferred as in driving 8 ohm speakers then inputs operate from a voltage source. It is important to understand that mike inputs typically expect a signal voltage of about -50dBv where line level signal voltage is about -10 dBv. The speaker output from the K3S can easily drive the line input of a mixer or power amplifier. A mike input on a mixer would likely be driven into distortion or the signal level from the K3S would need to be so low that the signal-to-noise ratio is seriously degraded. This it will always be susceptible to RF issues.

As a rule, most commercial mixers are designed such they are far from RF immune.

Another method is to use the headphone output to feed a power amp input. The level is much closer to be correct for a line level signal.

Re: K3 Locked Up - MCU LD

Check Config menu RS232, make sure it is not on USB (which you should not see unless you upgraded the KIO3 to the new one with USB).
Try 4800 baud vs 38400.
Also note; sometimes in MCU LD, it will not appear you are connected when you actually are.
You may see the "send firmware" button in the K3 Utility and it -looks- greyed-out, just click it anyway.

Bill,

RTFM.  Never try to load/update K3 firmware when the P3 is in-line.  Always go direct from the computer to the K3 per the manual.  All other purposes work well with the P3 in-line.

I'm glad the K3 is working well now.

K3 Lost External Speaker Sub Sound

Bud Governale

The headphones play the sub in split mode in the right ear properly.

When in split mode the right side external speaker does not play the sub.

External speakers both L & R sides play the main VFO sounds properly.

This used to work until recently.

Thanks,

Thanks Rick

Direct connection between laptop and K3.

Device manager shows device working and showing same port as K3 utility.

I am using latest version of utility which works with the K3S (using different direct USB connection of course)
