That's what the IF port is for.  I've done it and ultimately bought a P3 because the available software is still in its infancy.  I thought about writing my own but am not interested in doing that anymore.  You're on the right track with the sdrplay.

I have two K3's and one did not have the IF output so I added it. I connect my SDRPlay RSP1 into that output and have use the built in panapator in Win4K3Suite, HDSDR, SDRPaly UNO and SDR-RADIO and it works great.  So to answer you question ...the IF and not the RX..

I tried mine that way, but the roofing filter limits the bandwidth. I use the RX antenna output for the SDR receiver. The SDR tracks the K3 frequency using HRD. See my YouTube video: https://youtu.be/KusmkeLdfwE.

Take a look at NaP3.   Very effective, especially with a K3.

K3 Sub-receiver - Filters - etc for sale

j

I have my K3 at Elecraft to remove the sub-receiver, DVR, & I/O board.

It is a very lightly used K3 sub-receiver  (KRX3) with the original synthesizer and boards and 2.7 K filter that I can sell at $575.  The sub-receiver has the following additional filters in it.  I prefer to sell as a whole, but if not:

 – 250 Hz – 8 -pole = $125.

400 Hz – 8 pole = $125.

2100 Hz – 8 pole = 110.

FM -filter = 110.

I also have a DVR board - $110.

And a I/O board = $120.

I will ship all to you in CONUS for a package price of $1225.

VSPE had done good for me.

If not, have you run other programs and inadvertantly took over the com port the radio uses? Also look back to any other hardware that you may have connected that took over that com port if the radio was off at the time. It may be as simple as changing the com port address in winlink.

Just some suggestions.

I am attempting WINMORE WINLINK  with my K3s.  Currently I only have the usb cable connected, Configuration for input is:  line in and USB is selected for control.  Additionally, in the Winmore setup tab, I have the following:  Winmore Capture Device=  microphone (2-usb audio CODEC)- C0
                     Winmore Playback Device=   speakers (2-usb audio CODEC)-8b
Virual TNC PORT=8500   Inbound session bandwidth =500   drive level =95

Under the radio setup tab:   Radio = Elecraft k3  USB is checked  com port=5     baud = 38400
both RTS and DTR are checked     serial port = external

I prepare and  check a message to send, go the winmore winlink sesson manager, choose start:

Software transmitts, vox is keyed, transmitts normally but nothing shows in the RECEIVE BAR.    line level on K3s is 10, delay is 1, receive level of K3s is at a normal level through my headphones

If one of you guys who has this running successfully using the K3s sound cards check my settings I would appreciate it very much.  What is screwy about this is I have ran it successfully once before and cant duplicate my settings

New release of Win4K3Suite

tomb18@...

Hello,

There is a new release of Win4K3Suite.  This release offers a bug fix that showed up using DXLab Commander when you switched from a band that did not use the sub-receiver to one that does.  There was an excessive delay.  In the process, additional performance enhancements were made to the third party virtual radios in Win4K3Suite.

One of the useful features of Win4K3Suite is that it interfaces to all 3rd party logging and digital mode programs such as HRDLogbook, DX Keeper, NAP3, N3FJP, N1MM+, FLDigi, MIXW as well as hardware devices such as the K3/0, the Pig Knob and various antenna tuners.  In order to understand how to do this, there is now a video on youtube that gives clear instructions on using the virtual port management facilities of Win4K3Suite:  You can access it at

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jh6IS0S1dE&t=4s

There is no need for LPBridge, and you can wish you can even continue to use NAP3 if you prefer that interface.  You can read a review about this here: http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/11214

Please check out the 30 day trial at va2fsq.com and the videos on YouTube at

Good to see these additional features, Wayne, which are most welcome. But is there any news of DTFM tone support on the K3/K3S that was added to the KX3 in January 2013? I realise that it's been on the list for several years; is it any nearer to top?

Hi all,

We're close to a field-test K3/K3S firmware release with the following new features:

* Preamp 2 (LNA) now usable on 15 and 17 meters (provides significant NF improvement)

* TX monitor level at LINE OUT adjustable

* Two new remote control commands: VX SET (VOX on/off) and AR (RX ANT on/off)

...and some bug fixes:

* K-POD tap/hold functions can be used to play/chain/repeat message buffers

* Transmit start/stop via PTT or XMIT switch removes QSK or VOX delay, even if VOX mode was selected

* AM-sync mode no longer interacts incorrectly with memory store/recall

We have some testers already identified, but could use a few more. Please email me directly (wayne at elecraft dot com) if you'll be available to test most or all of the above functions in the next day or two.

Thanks--

Re: Problem with knob on P3

I had the same problem. Elecraft Support suggested that the rotary encoder has probably gone U/S.

Like you, my unit is out of warranty. I sent the P3 away for replacement of the encoder and it should be returning this very afternoon.

Hope this may help you.

PC-ALE ?

Bill Tubbs

I haven't really used many of the features on my K3 or other Elecraft rigs, but I'm interested in seeing if it will work with PC-ALE. I've seen a few queries on it but no real response thread. It seems that the PC-ALE folks don't know enough about Elecraft and the Elecraft folks don't know enough about PC-ALE (or ALE in general). The documentation isn't dummied down enough for me to get started.

So, I'm looking for anyone who has actually used their Elecraft (K3, KX3, KX2) on ALE, and specifically using PC-ALE.  My primary question is: does the Elecraft require an interface or can it be configured and used directly with a PC?

Problem with knob on P3

Vaclav Ujcik

I've a a P3 Panadapter and recently it seems that the knob is unresponsive. Trying to change Ref level, span, etc results in no change when rotating the knob. I've backed down to the previous firmware (1.54), but that didn't fix it, so I'm back to 1.60. I've also done a reset (which has now turned off the transmit monitor...it must be off by default).

It's now out of warranty as it's 18 months old, but wondered if anyone has had a problem like this and had any ideas before contacting Elecraft help and/or sending it in.

Thanks & 73,

Jim, WD9HBC

My K3S came with a 220uF 16v capacitor. I think it's an organic polymer. I
don't know what's for, there was nothing about it in the Assembly guide and
it fell out of a parts envelope that, I didn't bother to check.

Re: [Elecraft_K3] Mysterious Capacitor

Alan. G4GNX <g4gnx@...>

The KBPF3 modification kit consists of a 220uF polymer capacitor part #E530625 and 3 x 0.1uF SMD capacitors part # E530306. The complete kit would be marked E740264, so it’s almost certain it’s just a spare part that got included by mistake.

My understanding is that you don’t need the E740264 kit if you’ve ordered the KBPF3 option for a K3S.

I'm not sure why it would be included with a K3S, but as I recall that capacitor is needed if you plan to replace the BPF3 module in a K3 with the newer "A" version that covers the low frequencies. It's apparently needed to kill LF noise out one of the voltage regulators.
