Re: KPA1500 Macro help. PF combination for FAN Speed.

Mark,
I don't have the amp, but you should look up self replicating macros. There are examples on a few sites. What this does is do one macro on the first push, then calls up the next. The second push runs the second macro, then calls the first, etc. I hope this will work on the 1500 like on a K3. It is not the same as your FIY, ie toggle functions. Carl AB1DD

Re: KPA1500 Macro help. PF combination for FAN Speed.
Mark W2OR
I am still looking for a Macro Command String for PF1 that would, on first pressing, turn the fan to Speed-2, and on the second pressing of PF1, would turn the fan speed to Speed-0 (zero).
i.e., a command that can be used with just PF1, that will toggle between ^FC2 and ^FC0 . . . on the same PF1 button. Any ideas out there? FYI: The K3 had a limited number of functions for which the repeated pressing of the PF button would cycle different 'on' and 'off' functions. Speakers/Phones was one of them. But that's for the K3, quite a different beast. //73

KPA1500 Issue - "Low Gain Ratio" Hard Fault.
Mark W2OR
Anyone have experience handling this particular hard fault - - "Low Gain Ratio" ??
Yea, we can pretty well tell the amplification ratio factor is way low. My guess is, it's one of the finals. Some examples: Watts IN & OUT : 50> 535 45> 480 30> 325 10> 145 Yea, sent the unit's Config file (which contains the fault file) to Elecraft yesterday, and am waiting the crew's return from Dayton. // Mark

Re: KPA3 100 Watt PA Failure

This is an old K3 / KPA3 topic that keeps resurfacing. And for good reason. A related question:
Has anyone had any luck replacing the two 'final' amp transistors in the KPA3 amp module ?? Details, please. Thanks and 73.

One macro key not changing
KX2A
In my K3, I have encoded macros 1-8, M1 short/long to M4 short/long, to set various levels of power. For example, for 25 watts output, I entered PC025;. I used Elecraft K3 Utility to do this. This works for all but macro 7, for 90 watts, using key M4 short press. The utility shows the correct code, PC090;, but when I short press the M4 key, the K3 shows AF GAIN, a menu selection. M4 long press works fine.
Can someone clue me in on how to fix this. I see the entry, and I then press write macros 1-8 to K3. The K3 Utility shows that the memory says PC090;, but that is not what happens in real life. My guess is that the macro is correctly written, but something is interfering with it, probably in the K3. Thank you for any assistance. 73, Jan, KX2A

Be sure and re-seat the Aux cable on both ends. Then make sure both screws on both ends are fully engaged and tight to secure the connectors. Just plugging in this type of connect is not good enough. 73 Bob, K4TAX

I actually ran an RCA cable from the K3 key out to the amp Key in. It is working perfectly since. Must be a problem with the AUX cable. 73 Steve AA4V Sent from my I-Phone

You might try grounding the key in jack on the back of the amp and see if the problem goes away. If so, the problem is not in the amp.

KPA1500 problem
Stephen Reichlyn
Good morning all.
All of a sudden, my KPA1500 is showing a fault: RF IN, NO KEY IN If I drive the amp with 10w, it works nicely. 10w 450w out. When I drive the amp with 15-20w it immediately defaults to the above mentioned fault. Does the same thing on all bands. Any ideas? Steve AA4V 853-834-1616 Sent from my I-Phone

K3s here and right side is luke warm. If I remember there is a SSD mounted there, so it serves as a heat sink, but don’t quote me. I’ve built two K3’s from kits and the last one I have I purchased already built.

Re: 2m Transverter

Hi Mark.
Sorry I misunderstood. Yes, I was talking about the internal transverter,
although I’d assumed that they were both the same in operation.

Are you referring to the internal 2m option for the K3? I’m talking about the external XV144. It’s manual says (on page 3 frequency range 144-146 Mhz. It also says that the IF input range is 28 – 30 MHz. Although, interestingly, the IF input range of the XV432 is 28 – 32 MHz.

Mark.
I can’t help you with other rigs, but I can tell you that the 2 metre transverter DOES cover the entire band 144-148 MHz. It’s in the spec at the top of the manual and there’s even a warning about a relay click on crossing the boundary between 146 and 147.
Unfortunately I can’t use the 146-148 MHz part of the band, due to living in a restricted area, but I can assure you that the K3 tunes the transverter across the entire band.

I am interested
in adding a 2m transverter to my K3. I would like to use it with other
transceivers (Flex 6700, Apache Labs 7000DLE, Icom 7610). The Elecraft
transverter only covers 144 - 146, but I want to cover the whole
band.

Yes, Jim. Thanks. Tho I was already aware of that.
Let's see, in the original posting and original question, am looking for a command that can be used in just PF1, that will toggle between ^FC2 and ^FC0 . . . on the same PF button. Hmm.
