PDF of K3 basic kit
ac4cx10 <ac4cx@...>
I was wondering if a pdf file is available to see the steps in assembly
of K3 case and racks.I know its modular but seeing parts in a laid out pic would be nice and the assembly steps of parts and knobs and racks. Don AC4CX

Don,
The radio itself won't be available for a minimum of 5 weeks, I would not be suprised if the date slipped to August the way things go. I am fairly certain they are still working on the documentation among other things. --- In Elecraft_K3@yahoogroups.com, "ac4cx10" <ac4cx@...> wrote: assembly of K3 case and racks.I know its modular but seeing parts in a laidout pic would be nice and the assembly steps of parts and knobs and racks.

Voice mode
Bill
Hi All
I am inquiring for a blind friend as to the voice synth. on the K3. Does it have one? And if so, does it do the menus like the TS2000 or just the freq and s meter and mode like so many others? He is very interested in one of these, but as you all understand this issue is a make or break one in his case TIA Bill K4FX

They also just give little feedback on what is going on including not acknowledging problems... I'm sure there will be a number of revisions to the K3 firmware as they add goodies or correct things but I expect a totally different and better experience from Elecraft based on demonstrated competence and customer commitment.... Don Nesbitt
Interesting post - I have been an Elecraft fan almost
from the start - have the K1, KX1 and had a K2/100/KAT100. Sold the K2 (BTW an amazing rig) to make room for the K3 that I ordered as soon as it was announced at Visailia. I've also got an Orion II. Never one glitch, burp, belch or problem with software downloads, etc! The O II just sits there and works - extremely stable software and hardware. I know that reading the Orion or TT reflectors can skew your view - most of us that have no problems just use the rigs and go on our way without comment. It will be interesting to see how my new K3 stacks up against the O II. I'm sure it will be a terrific addition to my shack. Wayne and Eric have built a wonderful community around technically sound equipment. Bravo! Re: [Elecraft_K3] Voice mode
Toby Deinhardt
I am inquiring for a blind friend as to the voice synth. on the K3. The FAQ says <http://www.elecraft.com/K3/K3FAQ.htm> : Is the K3 compatible with visually impaired operators? Would like to have a voice announcement of frequency, mode, and S-meter readings. It will be. We're working with a few blind hams to optimize the interface. For details, imho, he should get in touch with Elecraft. vy 73 de toby -- DD5FZ, 4N6FZ (ex dj7mgq, dg5mgq, dd5fz) K2 #885, K2/100 #3248 K3/100 #??? (< #200) DOK C12, BCC, DL-QRP-AG

Hi Bill,
Well he called when they 1st announced it, and is waiting on them to reply, they told him they would get back with him,Usually they are very reponsive. I think that Elecraft has been rather surprised and slightly overwhelmed by the response up to now. If I were him, I'd just try again. Also it might be better to drop Wayne and Eric a personal email. vy 73 de toby -- DD5FZ, 4N6FZ (ex dj7mgq, dg5mgq, dd5fz) K2 #885, K2/100 #3248 K3/100 #??? (< #200) DOK C12, BCC, DL-QRP-AG

How blind is blind in this case? I ask as I'll provide full support for the K3 in Ham Radio Deluxe, and this can have voice enabled - there are blind hams who can still see a bit. For this very reason I support full UI customisation - font sizes, colours etc. Also if your friend has a partner he or she can always use the PC to change settings - it would be very simple. In a program such as mine the user will be able to store an unlimited set of profiles and just toggle through them with a single keystroke. What I have done elsewhere is enable a special window via a single keystroke combination, then there is voice-enabled navigation. I'm sure that between Elecraft's Lyle KK7P and those of us who write free software your friend will be able to enjoy the K3, we can't let someone down. Simon Brown, HB9DRV

Good news!
Joe Stofko <wb1aiu@...>
Wow... Lots of activity here, all of a sudden.
Imagine things will really get lively once shipments commence. The "good news" here is the post in the Voice Mode thread. Simon Brown, HB9DRV, indicates full support of the K3 in Ham Radio Deluxe..(IMHO)one of the best pieces of free software ever written! You can bet I'll be enjoying PSK31 via HRD and my K3. Now, Simon.. if only we could get you to port HRD to Linux!!! 73, Joe - WB1AIU

Hi Roger,
The K3 mic connector pin out is, according to Elecraft, identical to the Kenwood configuration. You are, essentially, correct... but it should be pointed out that Pin 7 is actually MIC Lo or Mic-, and pin 8 is GND. 73, Joe - WB1AIU --- In Elecraft_K3@yahoogroups.com, "Roger" <mw0idx@...> wrote: rewire the GM ready for my new K3.

Thanks Joe.
I called into Aptos last year whilst on holiday and I remember jokingly asking when the "mythical" K3 will be ready, only to be met with complete silence! This took me back a bit as I was expecting a jovial reply in return...... now I know why..! ;-) 73 Roger MWØIDX K3IDX K2 #2724 KX1 #416 K3 #? Elecraft in general
Einar Lundborg <cbc@...>
Hello,
Here I am. As an old QRP-fan I have been operating Elecraft´s K2, s/no 0037 since Spring 1999. Then I have built a couple of K1:s, KX1s and T1-s for me and my friends. Now I have ordered a K3 with the pree-paid sum, so I am sure my K3 will show up in July.. In April 1953 or some month before,hi, I started up building a QRP-rig, after a description in The A.R R.L handbook from 1949. Well, it will be very nice to follow the discussion here and on the Elecraft´s Refelctor, which I am very familiar with since the Winter Season 1998-99.. Here we go! I am wishing you all all the best with your "construction" of the new exciting K3. 72/73 Einar Lundborg, Norrkoping,Sweden cbc@telia.com --- sm5cbc@yahoo.com
