Granted the IC-9700 radio may not be out of spec, but when the spec does not reflect the real world use of the radio it does not matter. If the radio is marketed to do digital modes on all three

The IC-9700 may not be out of drift spec, but it has issues with some modes.
Your K3 with an option can calibrate the internal clock, but it doesn’t phase lock. However at HF it likely doesn’t

The issue is when the fan comes on after the rig has warmed up on 23cm.
On the higher power other bands the fan comes on and the frequency moves around.

I just ran a 30-minute test on my IC-9700 at 1296 MHz. Against a GPSDO-locked transverter (SunSDR2 pro + DEM L23HP), the 9700 drifted down 4 HZ in 30 minutes. Not that terrible. w8mqw
