Re: [Elecraft_K3] RF command and signals intensity
Thanks for that input, Joe. Since I have an XG3 I may give it a try -- though no problems with my K3 (#8004). Having a fully outfitted K2 system made me delay going to the K3, but I'm

Re: [Elecraft_K3] RF command and signals intensity
My K3 (s/n 1450) had seemed to be rather noisy recently as well.
On a whim after seeing Rob Sherwood's reports on the new synth,
I decided to (re)run the RF calibration ... that made a new rig

Re: [Elecraft_K3] RF command and signals intensity
Dale,
On factory calib, my RF gain control is very strange,
I can hear signals with the RF gain below 9 oclock.
if a signal is say S9 with the RF gain at 10 oclock,
and I turn the RF gain up a little

Re: [Elecraft_K3] RF command and signals intensity
Merv, that's interesting.
What is it that you find different? Maybe I'm not looking enough or in the right places.
I use mine mostly on SSB, I do like to listen to SW broadcasts very early

Re: [Elecraft_K3] Question about in band tuning.
This is from Wayne at Elecraft:
Note that the RIT/XIT tuning resolution always matches that of the VFOs. So if you want to tune the offset in 1-Hz steps, just tap FINE. For large steps, hold COARSE.

Interesting Dale,
I just did a calib with a XG-2 and the difference between that and the factory
is night and day, factory is not really usable on my K3.
XG-2 calib makes it "normal" with no

Re: [Elecraft_K3] Question about in band tuning.
Rob,
There is. I have my RIT/XIT knob assigned as a fast tuning main tuning knob. I use it all the time. Sorry, but at this moment I can't remember the CONF menu item to change it for that

Re: [Elecraft_K3] RF command and signals intensity
I quite agree, Dale. It replaced my all-up K2/100 as my main station rig about a year ago, then I added the KPA500/KAT500 combo a couple of months later. I have a (not often used, but

Re: [Elecraft_K3] RF command and signals intensity
No, it turns into a Monarch. It's great and my number one rig. Saves tons of space, best of the best in performance and has features without bounds. Customer support has no rivals ether. I'm not

Re: [Elecraft_K3] RF command and signals intensity
Phil, no, did the procedure exactly the same. The last time I did it the same way, everything looked fine, except the next morning I found the Smeter pegged, so I went back to the factory settings

Re: [Elecraft_K3] RF command and signals intensity
I just performed the cal with my XG3 and power cycled the K3, all ok so far. I can always resort to the factory settings, which don't seem to be much different from my XG3.
Dale, k9vuj

Dale,
Please keep us posted on your results. Some (at least I) may want to do the same calibration soon :-)
