Re: P3 pan scope fails to start at power up

I'm late to this conversation so excuse me if this is redundant: There is a P3 option to turn on when power is applied or to turn on only when the power button is pressed. It's an internal jumper described in the Owners Manual under the heading Configuration.

Re: K3 question

Doesn’t that only affect the filter used for receive?

I was under the impression that the transmit filter choice was  fixed by mode.

I’m guessing there may be a way to ( command or hardware??? ) change that.

People used to use the am filter for wide SSB.  This was commonly called lying to the k3. And fm filter for am, same deal.
The only thing controlling your transmitted bandwidth would be microphone and transmit EQ.

Re: P3 pan scope fails to start at power up

Dale,

Few thoughts here:

By using an external power supply instead of the DC output from your K3s I'm sure you are using a completely different power cable.

That being said ... try your original DC power cable (or maybe a new one) between the P3 and the K3s. Just a trouble-shooting step.

Was the P3 power button accidentally pushed so that even when you powered up your K3s the P3 power switch was actually
in the off position? Maybe an accidental push to off without realizing?

Exercise the P3 power button ... maybe dirty contacts?

Re: settings issue with KIO3B

Joe Subich, W4TV

Andy,

Try upgrading to WSTJX 2.5.0-rc3. It includes an update to hamlib
that allegedly fixes the delay with the K3/K3s when using split =
radio and mode=data.

The issue has long been that WSJTX waits until the K3/K3S reports
that VFOB has settled on its "new" frequency. However, WSJTX waits
to set VFOB until xx:00/xx:15/xx:30/xx:45 and the K3/K3s can take
several hundred ms (or more), particularly when WSJTX is also
setting split, data mode, etc. at the same time. The combination
results in a delay to the PTT ON (TX1;) command.

I have no idea what changes have been made to hamlib but reports
are that the delay is eliminated (or significantly reduced).

With the rig in DATA A mode, set MAIN:MIC SEL to LINE IN, then rotate the MIC gain control so it reads something like LINE 8 or LINE 10 - something more than zero. Adjust the LO CUT and HI CUT controls to get the filter bandwidth you want, set the audio frequency to somewhere between 1500 Hz and 2000 Hz, transmit a tuning signal from the software and set the MIC gain and Windows level controls so the ALC meter reads 4-5 bars.

Re: K3 question

Henk PA0C

Hi Israel,,

The K3 assembly manual states the following:

Turn to the Crystal Filter Installation and Setup section of your Owner’s Manual and perform the following
procedures. If you have installed standard Elecraft 5-pole filter(s) you will need the FREQ OFFSET data you
recorded earlier on page 14.
 Filter Bandwidth Setup
 Filter Center Frequency Setup
 Receive Filter Enables
 Filter Loss Compensation
 Transmit Filter Selection

The transmit filter selection setup requires that you select a valid transmit filter for each
mode. If you fail to do so, you will see ERR TXF and have no RF output when you attempt
to transmit.

Israel,

That error is noted in my K3 Owner's Manual on Page 70.

ERR TXF (not tfx)  Invalid transmit crystal filter bandwidth
The crystal filter selected for TX (with CONFIG: FLTX) is either too narrow or too wide. You must specify a filter
that is 2.7 or 2.8 kHz wide for CW/DATA/SSB, 5 kHz for AM and 13.0 kHz for FM.

I suggest using the K3 Utility to check the settings of your installed filters.  Fred Cady's User Guide for the K3 & P3 (3rd Edition)
has a good write-up on the K3 Utility and filter setup starting on Page 24.

Subject: Re: [Elecraft-K3] settings issue with KIO3B

With the rig in DATA A mode, set MAIN:MIC SEL to LINE IN, then rotate the MIC gain control so it reads something like LINE 8 or LINE 10 - something more than zero. Adjust the LO CUT and HI CUT controls to get the filter bandwidth you want, set the audio frequency to somewhere between 1500 Hz and 2000 Hz, transmit a tuning signal from the software and set the MIC gain and Windows level controls so the ALC meter reads 4-5 bars.

Re the delay, in the WSJT-X Settings window try setting the Split mode to Fake It instead of Rig (or vice versa).

Select CONFIG:LIN OUT and tap A/B (1)

So simple... Thanks very much Joe... 😊 That has resolved the audio from the radio To the PC issue... Now for the audio from the PC to the K3. I have the WSJT set to (speakers USB audio codec), and 'both' selected but getting nothing in the K3.. I have so far tried MIC SEL to rP.L, FP.L and LInE In, and none seem to work... If I look at MIC+LIN I get not APPL and cant change it.

I think I'm missing something again, but what??

Thanks,

Andy

K3 question

Israel Banini

My K3 and P3 was working fine until the K3 starred showing "ERR TFX" I tried search the internet and one place shows it is caused from using the wrong filter for the mode. Another place referenced it being a software error. Can some please help me with this error?

Thanks
Israel

Before writing my previous post, I had checked the effect of the MON setting but the confirmation beeps remained stubbornly absent.

Prompted by John's suggestion, I decided to check the effect of MON one more time; and for some reason, I also decided to change mode before doing so - and the beeps came back! They are now working again, on all modes. Strange...

The MON setting still has no effect on the level of confirmation beeps, but I had never expected or noticed that feature previously.

Thanks for the prompt, John. Case closed.

The monitor volume affects the beeps. I've been down that road and have the t-shirt.

On my old K3 (s/n 07xx) the button-press confirmation beeps have suddenly disappeared. Firmware is up-to-date and I am not aware of having done anything that would affect that feature.

Any ideas, please?

(Yes, I have tried turning them off and on again... and again.)
