K3_EZ will do this:

The author is a silent key so it's no longer supported.  I use it frequently for various reasons.

Randy,

If you go into the CONFIG menu and scroll through, you should get a good idea of what is and isn't installed.

Installed options will have their configuration settings. Uninstalled/missing components will read either "n/a" or "not inst" or "not installed".

Hope this helps.

K3 Inventory Software ???

Randy Hall <listk7age@...>

Hi,

I bought my K3 used about 10  years ago and I can't remember what options are installed in the radio.

Is there any software that provides an inventory of what is installed?

Re: KIO3B and USB isolator

A most common failure is leaving the radio connected to the PC while the latter is connect to AC power, DSL, or a cable MODEM.  Long wires/cables of any sort are subject to induced current which can cause large Voltages.  I suggest going through the shack and considering if and how all gear is vulnerable.

I disconnect all ingress connections, RF or power, during storms.  Disconnected the phone line from the DSL MODEM is of no value if the wall wart is still plugged into AC power.

ID ALL ingress points.  You can list your own.  Make disconnecting as easy as possible by removing one cable that supplies many devices.  Ask the question, "What's connected to my gear?"  The TiVo remains powered up, but the HDMI cable to the HDMI switch gets disconnected along with the shack TV (Geochron and yesterday's news without commercials) AC cord.

If lightning gets within 20 miles, I start disconnecting which can take a few minutes.  Everything is marked that must be disconnected (cables and their jacks/sockets).  My wife can do it if I'm foolish and leave without checking the weather.  That includes blowing snow, rain, and dirt past antennas!

Yes, I know about lightning protection devices.  I've also made a lot of money repairing commercial broadcast equipment which was far better protected than 99% of Amateur Radio stations.

Re: [Elecraft_K3] Momentary RX quieting when transitioning from TX to RX, but only sometimes...

Michael Kopec

I have had this problem twice with my K3s/KPA500/KAT500 combo. Both times I traced it down to the PL239/SO239 connection at the antenna Balun. The SO239 center was loose and not making good contact with the Pl239 center pin. de Mike K8NS

I have seen the center socket of the Ant 1 SO-239 become loose and cause this.
Otherwise it is usually a bad joint in the antenna system.

If you think it is in the K3, there is no T/R relay, but there are some other relays it might be;
When the RX says quiet, try switching below 12w, change bands, switch to Ant2 or RX antenna.
That could narrow it down.

FS: Elecraft KPA1500 amplifier

Jeff AC0C

I offer for sale my KPA1500 amplifier in excellent cosmetic and operational condition.

Given the amount of nonsense I see on a lot of boards with respect to high end gear sales, I would welcome the serious buyer come to the shack for a first hand personal check out of the amp so the new owner can be 100% satisfied of it's condition.

For those otherwise trusting buyers who don't associate my callsign with that of a scoundrel, I would be willing to do some driving for a meet up & hand off as part of the deal.  QTH here is about 30 minutes south of Kansas City, KS, in the lovely center of the propagation black hole here in the great USA.

$5400 OBO.

Those interested - kindly contact me off list to    jeff at ac0c dot com

Happy Thanksgiving and this year it looks like we will have some extra propagation on the CQ WPX CW contest this weekend as well to be thankful for.

Weird K3s failure

C G

Had around 40 dB less reception than usually. Thought it was some kinda static yielding first transistor failure, or some PIN diode with magic smoke? After tracing the signal from the sig gen connected to the antenna input (--15 dBm being a good value) with a R&S HF millivoltmeter, noticed that D25 PIN diode didn't pass HF. No polarization, and diode direct and reverse testing with multimeter was OK. No short circuit to ground at R48; RFC45 open circuit: 7 V on one lead, 0 on the other. Replaced the latter and off we go: -73 dBm = S9!

Has SO experienced the same failure?

Is this random component failure, or any over-current explained issue?

Christian

No., But I would (and do) use a decent usb cable with ferrite beads at each end.

certainly can not hurt !!!!

the K4 specs include a section on disconnecting the radio when not in use to avoid garbage damaging the radio. ..

KXV144 maximum RX input power?

I'm thinking about rearranging some of my 2m antenna cabling (sharing
antennas) and I am wondering if there is a maximum input power rating on the
KXV144 receiver.

Yeah - it's working again!

Thanks Paul, the BSET was the key to success. I have no idea how this was engaged.
I never used that feature. The only way could be accidentally hold the A/B button instead of just pushing it. The A/B button I use regularly.

Thank you very much all of you for replying to my question and the offered help! Really great!

Hi Andy, just read Pauls reply, he may be on to something, the filters also have to be set per band. I’m not saying you have turned the filters off, but sometimes a lost of battery backup power may cause a reset, as it did to me earlier this year on my K3s. Hope it’s a simple fix. Good luck.

Hi Andy,

I just checked my K3 with sub on 160m and there was no receive; only noise.
I used the B Set (with sub on) and changed the antenna setting to main. Now both receivers are working.
This may be a "per band" setting.
I hope this helps.

Hello folks,

I just found out, the sub-RX isnt working on the bands mentioned above. There is only noise. No signal at all, no matter how strong it is.
Rest of bands are working correctly.

Any idea whta the problem could be? To get a starting point...
