Re: K3 supply voltages

There was a long discussion on voltage drop month or so ago.  Short answer 1.4 bad.  Per discussion, I adjusted my PS to 14.4 volts, shorted and direct connected power cord to power supply, getting rid of DC Anderson distribution hub.  Now K3S read 14.4, drops to 14.1.    Someone may be able to point you to the thread.

You may also consider turning the "delay" knob on the Signalink up (clockwise) a bit.  I don't know if that affects the signal quality, but it should eliminate excessive Tx/Rx switching.

Cable trays like those are available in the UK from most electrical wholesalers.

Front panel design is administered for Europe (inc. UK) by Schaeffer in Germany: http://www.schaeffer-ag.de and their service is excellent, if perhaps a bit expensive for one-offs.

Front Panel Design does take some getting used to, but once you learn how to use it, it's very powerful and accurate. and you can submit your design direct to Schaeffer.

I designed a new case for my 2 metre linear and submitted it to them. It was made and shipped in about 2 weeks.

I'm just about to put photos of the linear on my website. I'll let you know when they're available to view. I presume we still can't submit images to this forum?

Nicely done.  I too have done a lot of homebrewing in my younger days and built a number of high power amplifiers.

While getting panels built to order is marvelous, a careful homebuilder can do much of this in the home workshop, it just takes longer and costs less.  The engraving of nomenclature on panels is probably the biggest problem in the home shop, although I used to have a panagraph engraver and even did this at home.

A couple of my projects can be seen at the bottom of my QRZ page (I've never had much desire to build my own website). https://www.qrz.com/db/N7WS

Some of the work was "G jobs" at my former employer, where I had access to a metal shear and metal plating equipment but I have done the same work at home.  One trick for box construction is using flat plate construction with corner blocks (something I was doing before Elecraft existed ;-)

Hard alloy aluminum of sufficient thickness can even be cut on a table saw using a fine-tooth carbide blade if one is EXTREMELY careful.  Otherwise, using a hacksaw and files will do it.  A very nice satin finish can be had by using a random-orbit sander and lubricant.  Experiment with grit to get what you want.  Follow up with a soak in a household lye solution, then a vinegar dip and water flush and it will look professional.

I did layout using machinist's blue and a vernier height gauge on a granite surface plate, but hand-holding an inexpensive vernier caliper will do the same job.  Purists will drill and tap the plates and corner blocks individually, but match drilling works fine and is a lot less grief.

I had access to Alodine and silver plating but I don't recommend either.  Poorly done, they both can affect RF conductivity in a negative way.

Re: Fell Hell

I think Feldhell is especially sensitive to having good modulation of your tones on TX.   Over/under modulation of TX tones might well contribute to missing or distorted text being received.

On a K3, ALC for most digimodes should be first four bars solid, 5th flickering.

What does your ALC read when transmitting Feldhell?

This story concerns four people – Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it but in the end Nobody did it.
Everybody got very angry over this because it really was Somebody’s job.
Everybody thought Somebody would do it, but Nobody realised that Anybody wouldn’t do it
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when actually Nobody had asked Anybody.
