I am undertaking a full rebuild of my operating position, note the Patch Panel does not say K3 on it... That means I can replace things with a K4 later... :) -- 73, and thanks, Dave (NK7Z) https://www.nk7z.net ARRL Volunteer Examiner ARRL Technical Specialist ARRL Asst. Re: WTB carry case
Ditto. Good for carry-on. I have one for my K3 as well. Actually, Gary, VE1RGB (sk) had it made and I bought the K3 and bag from his estate.

Top Quality. I've been using it the past few years as a travel-only rig and bag looks new. Mike VE9AA

True, would not use for checked luggage, just carry-on. John, didn’t explicitly say ‘check-in’,.

John, If you can't find used, DX Engineering sells the Nanuk brand. Very similar to Pelican at a fraction of the price. I use one for my surveying data collector and it has protected it from some VERY embarrassing episodes out in the field. For the quality they are extremely reasonably priced compared to others. Many sizes and good padding. Just a suggestion. 73, Joe /AJ3O

Re: Telex Aviation Headset Use w/K3
Mel Marcus
the mike might need bias and that can be provided by the k3. are the earphone stereo. also, there is an 8 pin adapter that splits off to the stereo plug for the mike with bias and another plug that connects to the remote PTT.
Hope this helps Mel NE9A

The net is at 1800Z on 20m and 1845Z on 40m. Try those times. There were at 10 to 15 check-ins on 20m SSB and there were about 13 check-ins on 40m SSB.

For shipping protection, a hard case would mean a Pelican or similar case.

shows an interface box where the stereo jack for the aviation headset goes to the Mic input of the FT100 RJ-45 cable. Here’s a second website showing an interface box schematic that allows a David Clark headset to connect to a FT-897: I’m not an electrical engineer, but it appears to me that there is more involved than simply looking at what connector(s) is on the headset given the wiring used in these headsets…. Couldn’t recommend Rose’s work highly enough. She’s made me a cover for my K3 and Hexkey (in fact that’s mine, 2nd row down in middle) and a Carry-case for the K3. very well made, very sturdy, very nice.

Re: Telex Aviation Headset Use w/K3

Hi Lee, I wonder if the mono plug is for the mic and the stereo plug for the phones? My Heil head set is set up that way. The electret mic will need bias which you can select from the menu. Heil makes and adapter for the K3 and Kenwood headset it is the following if you don't want to wire your own. It is available from several suppliers such as DXE. The mic plugs into the smaller of the two jacks on the adapter. The other for a 1/4" plug is for a foot switch or a push to talk switch...
