The net is at 1800Z on 20m and 1845Z on 40m.  Try those times.

There were at 10 to 15 check-ins on 20m SSB and there were about 13 check-ins on 40m SSB.

For shipping protection, a hard case would mean a Pelican or similar case.

Aviation headsets are a different breed.  I suggest that some internet searches will clarify the differences. For example:

Here’s a second website showing an interface box schematic that allows a David Clark headset to connect to a FT-897:

I’m not an electrical engineer, but it appears to me that there is more involved than simply looking at what connector(s) is on the headset given the wiring used in these headsets….

My Heil head set is set up that way.  The electret mic will need bias which you can select from the menu.  Heil makes and adapter for the K3 and Kenwood headset it is the following if you don't want to wire your own.  It is available from several suppliers such as DXE. The mic plugs into the smaller of the two jacks on the adapter.  The other for a 1/4" plug is for a foot switch or a push to talk switch...

K3 won't power up after PS trouble.

Christopher Scibelli

I flipped on my Astron PS which powers my K3 and it was dead.  I checked the fuse in the Astron-35M and it was blown.  I replaced the fuse and as soon as I hit the power switch I could see the fuse light up so there's a problem with the PS.

I switched the K3 over to a working power supply and the K3 won't power up.  I tried the circuit breaker but the K3 still won't power up.

Is there an internal fuse in the K3?  If not, any suggestions where I start?  The K3 was assembled as a kit back in 2010.  I have most of the options except for a 2nd receiver.

One or more is probably open.

Thanks Keith,
The problem was faulty mixer, I swapped the 2nd RX mixer in place of 1st mixed and now I can do the tx gain calibration in all bands.
Now I just need to fix the mixer.

Hi Jarmo;
Check that your filter for CW TX is correctly set (either a 2.7 or 2.8), and if you have a 2.7, it should have an offset like -.89   If a 2.8, then zero offset.

Set PWR SET to nor, then set power to 11.9 Watts (7.9 on 6m).
Then long press XMIT to do a TUNE and see if it will make good power on all bands  (I assume 6m is dead).

If KXV3 equipped, put a dummy load on the XVTR BNC and runt he MW tx gain cal, that can show problems.

If the MW passes with good numbers (please send), and the LPA does not make good power, the LPA has an issue.
6m problems can be one (or more) of the 4 little blue coils on the mixer board L1-L4. The should be about 4 ohms and can easily be damaged and open.
