Thanks for the reply.
It is the K3S end, I am not sure what to do. I did find a RS232 -> RJ45 cable for my K3S, so I expect that I can use that.

You have to use the DB15 acc jack.

Re: Remote On/Off KPA1500
KPA1500 Remote will indeed turn the amp on and off. Yes, it takes some screen space but that is well worth it to avoid “flying blind” running 1500 watts with no indication of what’s going on except transient fault and warning messages in the K3 VFO B area that you may not be watching full time! Or completely blind if you’re not using a K3. I need a secondary monitor to run N1MM logger anyway, so there’s plenty of room for KPA Remote. 73, Rick N6XI -- -- Rick Tavan Truckee, CA

Re: Remote On/Off KPA1500

There are times I prefer to operate without the amp when operating remote. Since my eight channel relay switcher can accommodate the function, makes sense to me to use it for powering the amp on/off independent of the K3. If I used the K3's 12V jack, then I would have to use the KPA1500 Remote software to switch between OPER/STBY. Why make it more complicated than it needs to be?

Using the USB connection, you can turn the KPA1500 off and on as well has control most functions. Used it over the last 6 weeks running remote from Florida back to my station in Illinois. Haven't played with the Ethernet connection yet.

Elecraft K3S (RJ45) and SPE Expert PA
OZ0J Joe
Hi
I do have an Elecraft K3S with a RJ45 plug for the RS232.
I would like to connect my SPE Expert 1,3K FA so the K3S sends band data to the Expert PA.
I will connect the K3S to my laptop via the USB cable.
If it is possible, how do I connect to the SPE Expert PA to send band data to the SPE PA?

Use the 12v switched 1.0A Max RCA phono jack on the back of the K3 and connect it to the Rem phono jack on the KPA1500. You will need a male - male cable. With this setup, whenever you turn on or off the K3, the KPA-1500 will follow suit. Look at the last paragraph on page 19 of the 1500 manual. It describes the operation better Best regards, Jerry, W1IE

Re: Remote On/Off KPA1500
Charlie Wirth
As far as I understand it the remote software will not turn on the amplifier. I am not using a K3 therefore I cannot use the 12v jack to connect to the remote jack on the 1500.
What I thought I would do is use a 12vdc, 500mA wall wart connected to a web enabled power strip. I can use the remote software once the amp is powered up.

Audio Logic Issue
Bud Trench
I have been using the rear panel PHONES jack to feed audio from my K3S to the mk2R+ I use in my SO2R configuration. Several days ago, I started to only hear audio in the left side of the headphones connected to the mk2R+ and the right-side audio was heard from the K3S speaker.
My configuration settings are as follows:
SPKRS = 1 SPKR+PH = NO SPKR+PH Secondary function = PH.R SW--
I did some troubleshooting and here is what I observe:
I suspect a misconfiguration or failure of the KI03B audio board. Any advice?

Re: Sub RX Failure or some config change I haven't figured out yet?
The denouement: After trying every possible configuration setting and conferring with Rob of Elecraft support over email, the conclusion was there must be a hardware failure. Local PVRCer Rick N1RM has retired and started up a repair business and he said to bring the K3 down and we could start tracing some signal paths.
Connected the K3 to his power supply and signal analyzer, pure tone comes out the speaker. To check the sub RX plug in Rick's headphones - and the second channel of audio works fine! Turns out there was a hardware failure, just not in the K3 - the 1/4" phono plug on my Shure headphones had solder connection that had gone bad - the one thing I hadn't tried was swapping out headphones! Kinda reminded me of the old Steve Martin routine of spending thousands to fix bad sound in his stereo and then finding out it was the 89 cent needle on his record player... (younger hams can Google "needle" and "record player" - maybe even "stereo") So, no fault in the K3 and thanks to Rob for all the time he spent suggesting diagnostic paths. 73 John K3TN

Re: K3 BCB Harmonics When Power is 12W or Less
Ray Maxfield
I would try a Hi-Pass filter Tuned for 1650 Khz.
I looked at the Local B-Cast band stations in your area.
the Highest in the band I see is 1570 Khz.
Up 80 kc should help with Attenuation on the Lo side
and have less effect on the Low end of 160 meters.
Here is a Web page with an Design App to Help
with a Butterworth Pi Hi-Pass. 73
