I would load WSJT-X and initiate communications direct from that application to the radio without using any other applications. Get that configuration working before using other applications.      Personally I detest having to run one application to run another application and then a third application.  Too many variables.  Instead of handshaking it usually turns into a fist fight.

These are the parameters which I use and I find they work very reliably.

The set-up is handled in the WSJT-X application where you choose:  Radio = Elecraft K3/KX3, Baud rate  = 38400, Data bit = 8, Stop bit = 1, Handshake = none, PTT method  =CAT, Mode = Data/Pkt, Split Operation = RIG.

John I had the same situation with mine. Elecraft suggested to replace U1 which did not do any good. They then said , send the board in for repair which I did. Costly from HK land plus  $ 100 for labor .When I replaced the board It seemed to have a good conection with the PC . As soon as I began updating the FW It failed right away. Elecraft did not provide any solution or even offered to re do the job.

I lost faith on them even though I have two K3s...

If you are lucky someone here will offer a used board from an upgraded K3

Detailed YouTube / CAT Sharing with Software and Hardware / Win4K3Suite

Max NG7M

For those that want a highly detailed overview and demo of CAT sharing across software and hardware with Win4K3Suite, I posted a 57 minute YouTube video.  The concepts are applicable to other transceivers and CAT sharing solutions.

Here is a link to the
diagram used in the video.  My only connection to Win4K3Suite is that I'm a happy customer and continue to be impressed by how stable it is and how well it facilitates the creation of virtual K3 CAT feeds which are transparent to software and hardware you are using in your shack. There are also versions for Icom transceivers and Yaesu transceivers, but my experience is limited to the version for Elecraft transceivers.

The video is very detailed and if you find this interesting, you might find it useful to jump back 10 seconds and forward 10 seconds at a time using the 'J' and 'L' keys while you are watching on YouTube.

Tony -- good morning

Firstly I would check that the PCB you've fitted inside the P3 is correctly seated on its connectors, no bent pins etc, and no other connections have become dislodged when you fitted the detector PCB.
Then just check that you have the correct settings in the P3 MENU.
Make sure you are using the supplied Lead from P3 to detector. I had an initial problem when I used a longer lead than supplied, as it was wired differently to the standard.

Other than that, there's not a lot to go wrong.

I have a similar setup including the SVGA board in my P3 (which cramps up the space for fitting the TX monitor PCB later)

P3 - TX Monitor

N2TK, Tony

After many months finally took the Direction Coupler out of the box and
hooked it up to my P3/K3.
In the TXMon Menu I have the following:
Mte En - ON
Meter Scale - 2000W (I am using a 2KW Directional coupler and it is hooked
up properly.)
Mod En - Off. If I turn it ON, the screen flashes.

The P3 screen shows the Modulation Scale, SWR meter scale and also the
digital PEP and SWR meters. But when I transmit none of the power meters on
the P3 show anything.
I am getting power out on the LP-100.
Any ideas on what I could be missing?

Re: K3 & USB

Bob McGraw - K4TAX

If using DATA A mode, and CAT control, and USB communications, the VOX is not used.   The Line gain, adjusted by the MIC knob when in DATA A mode, should be in the 30 to 50 range.  This will depend also on the setting values from the computer and the software.  The PWR slider on the WSJT screen is usually about mid to three quarters scale.

On the setting of audio levels, one should have 4 bars of the ALC scale on solid with the 5th bar flickering.   The  actual onset of ALC does not occur until after the 5th bar.    Other brands of radios are different in this regard.  DO NOT set the Elecraft audio level as you would for other radios.

4 bars solid, 5th bar flickering.   Set the PWR control on the K3 for the power level you desire to operate.

Re: K3 & USB

During transmit the ALC bar graph MUST show 4 bars solid with the 5th bar flickering. This is correct audio level and is not ALC action.

The actual ALC starts after the 5th bar.

Treat the K3S as if it is a K3.  Use the Elecraft supplied E980297

configure all of your other hardware ans software *exactly* like

Before i sent it in it worked as it should with the logging program and
the CAT enabled perfectly. Now it's not doing that. I've been from one
configuration to another in both the logbook and WSJT-X. Just not
having any luck with any of the settings. Yes, the K3 is set for 38.4
as are the other programs. Looking at the DEVICE's in the control panel
shows the radio connected to USB port 19. I am getting audio from the
radio to the computer as WSJT-X is decoding signals just fine. Nothing
happens on transmit though and when i try to exit the configuration
file, it tells me that there is an I/O problem with Hamlib while trying
to open the link to the radio. Been here B4 with this. Never did get
it to work before so always left it working with the RS-232 cable that
converted from RS232 to USB and it did work just fine then.

Also before i was able to use TX Data mode, set for Data A which btw in
receive anyway it sounded like i was still in USB. Wasn't there a
setting someplace to put into USB mode?

At least it works on CW and SSB. Kudos to the Elecraft crew for such a
fast turnaround on this thing.

Any help with making this thing work with the USB connection?
