Dave -
I read through this tutorial. It is pretty good. I do not know what to do about the COM ports. I generally use COM4 or COM5 for either software running standalone. I just do not understand what to do when I am running WSJT X through Commander. Also, is there a sequence for bringing up the packages (WSJT, Commander, JT Alert)?
Thanks

Found the problem.... change setting to VOX allows me to go into transmit..

If you're referring to the "PTT Method" panel on the Radio tab of WSJT-X's Settings window, that should be set to CAT, not VOX.
In the "WSJT-X" section of

I ran into that, too. The error occurs because both Commander and WSJT-X talk to the K3 using the same COM port. You can't run both at the same time. The port is grabbed and controlled by the first application you run. The second application fails to open the port because it is already in use.

I am trying to get FT8 working with WSJT X and DXLabs Commander on my K3.

I have WSJT X working on a COM port and I have made several successful FT8 connections.

Also, if I run just Commander by itself on a COM port, it talks to the K3.

But when I try to run them both, using the DXLabs Commander as rig in the WSJT X setup, I get a rig control error from WSJT X.

Any ideas?

Hi Marty, just a short note... I fired up my K3 with a SignaLink USB using the latest version of WSJT and I also get a rig error as I'm not able you get PTT to function. All the other software that I fired up this weekend worked but not WSJT-X.

I'm looking for help as well.

I've done something similar, but not much of a noise problem. It is worth noting as Bob did there are a I.F. And DSP filters.

I started with both DSP and IF NB set to OFF.  Then turned the DSP on and adjusted the values using a frequency on the band absent of a signal,  i.e. just band noise.  Found the optimum value and noted same.  Then set the DSP NB to OFF.  Then turned on the IF NB and performed the same procedure.    Noted the value.  In finality, I turned on the DSP NB setting it to the preferred value and then the IF NB at its preferred value.  With both optimized, the system does and excellent job.

Of note, if one changes bands or encounters a different noise component, the procedure should be repeated for optimum results.

I find the noise blankers in the K3 to be on a par with the other rigs I’ve owned over the years and even better than some.

The only way I can get mine to work properly is to use a 6kHz filter for FL4. This was a solution suggested by Wayne some time ago.
Downside is the dynamic range is reduced within wide filter b/w, but most of time manageable.
Wayne, any chance of an upgrade to the NB functionality with normal CW filters?

The problem with this is that it can result in aggressive settings that then distort signals when they are encountered.

Plus, it's too complicated; 21 possibilities of hardware blanking and 21 possibilities for DSP is crazy.

Also, I remain unconvinced that there is enough time delay in the signal path to allow the hardware blanking to deal with the leading edge of a noise pulse.

This is a perpetual topic, see:

New release of Win4K3Suite

tomb18@...

Hello,

There is a new release of Win4K3Suite.  This release corrects an error with a missing DLL when a SDRPlay RSP1A is used and improves the RIT/XIT function.

One of the useful features of Win4K3Suite is that it interfaces to all 3rd party logging and digital mode programs such as HRDLogbook, DX Keeper, NAP3, N3FJP, N1MM+, FLDigi, MIXW as well as hardware devices such as the K3/0, the Pig Knob and various antenna tuners and amps.  In order to understand how to do this, there is a video on youtube that gives clear instructions on using the virtual port management facilities of Win4K3Suite:  You can access it at

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jh6IS0S1dE&t=4s

In case you are not aware, Win4K3Suite is a comprehensive control program for the Elecraft K3, K3S, KX3 and KX2.  It supports all hardware such as the KPA500, KPA1500 and KAT500 even on the KX2.

Win4K3Suite has built in panadapter support for the P3, LPPAN and the SDRPlay RSP. There is no configuration necessary to support all modes and filter settings for QSY's.

You can read user reviews here:

https://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/11214

There is a fully functional 30 day trial available at va2fsq.com
