What's the trick to using Line in and Line out
harrylatterman@...
I now have two K3's (not S, just originals). I am replacing my FT-991, which was my dedicated digital radio with my second K3. I figured it would be a no brainer to get digital to work. So far it has been headache.... I have a Gateway quad core computer that I want to hook up using the Line in and line out. Connecting Line out to the mic does nothing...moving the same wire to the headphone plug gives me a waterfall... This is true for both radios. I have set the radio to DATA A. and it has no effect with either radio. I have fooled around with various menu settings and no luck... What am I doing wrong?.... I do NOT want to spend money I don't have on a Signalink so don't bother to suggest that.. Line In and line out are suppose to be buffered and that should be all that I need.... So anyone out there have any suggestions, I would really love to hear them. I am about ready to dig up two transformer, go to SSB and do my own buffering and use the mic with vox and the headphone jack...
Really hope this is simple and I am just to tired and dense to figure it out today... 73 Harry K7ZOV

Re: [Elecraft_K3] K3S and P3 Signal S-Meter scales do not matching
Mark Erbaugh <mark@...>
There is a description in the P3 manual about S levels (see page 17). The K3 S-meter reads an average energy for the whole bandpass, the P3 is reading for the individual bin (column on the pan adapter), so the signals will be different for SSB. They will be closer for CW where the energy is concentrated in a single frequency.

There is a level calibration procedure on page 31 of the P3 manual. Lastly, my P3 levels were way low. It turned out to be a bad cable between the K3 and P3. 73, Mark

K3S and P3 Signal S-Meter scales do not matching
Irwin Darack
I recently installed the SVGA option in my P3 and noticed that the S-Meter scales on the P3 and SVGA do not match the S-Meter scales on the K3S radio. I probably paid no attention to this before. With the SVGA and a large monitor it is much more noticeable. Hence when I have a signal that is a S-20 (Receive) on the K3S meter, the P3 and SVGA only show the signal as a S3.
I am sure there is a way to get them to match in the menu settings?
Thanks, Irwin KD3TB

RX ant rear panel out and in.
banester@...
Hi I have a K3s with a internal 2m transverter. Can I loop the 28Mhz IF from the transverter thought the rear panel RX Ant in and out BNC's while on 144 Mhz. Also can this be switched using the Rx ant button ? I need to split the 28mhz to a SDR to run Map65. While still using the K3s on 2m. Make my day and tell me I can. Don't want to start drilling holes in the back. Plus anyone yet decided where the birdie on 144.416 is generated ? Cheers Richard G4CDN

Re: K3-mini starts in TERM mode
Scott Lowe
Geoff,
You are correct. I determined that when the RemoteHams server disconnects for some reason then the K3-mini goes into terminal mode when it attempts to connect to the server. The fix is to reboot the RemoteHams server. Thank you! Scott, WA0TPN Reinbeck, Iowa Printed on Recycled Data

Re: [Elecraft_K3] K3-mini starts in TERM mode
Olli
Expected behaviour, Scott! The K3/0 mini only knows TERM mode, it's not a full transceiver. ;-) TERM will be shown during connection to the remote side. No way/need to avoid it, normal behaviour. 73, Olli - DH8BQA Contest, DX & radio projects: http://www.dh8bqa.de Am 11.06.2016 um 16:15 schrieb SWLowe

Re: K3-mini starts in TERM mode
gdinham@...
Hi Scott - I get the K3/0 mini showing TERM if the 1258s are not connected via the internet. I don't use Remotehams.com with my K3/0 mini but I suspect the TERM indication is caused by the same problem. I have autoconnect on my 1258s so as soon as I power on the 1258s, they connect within 5 seconds and then I power ON the K3/0 mini - this avoids the TERM problem with the associated 3 tone warning sound.

K3-mini starts in TERM mode
Scott Lowe
I am using the K3-mini to remotely operate my K3 via RemoteHams.com. Occasionally, the K3-mini starts in the TERM mode. I select the NORM mode by holding the [MENU] buttom for 5 seconds and then reboot the RCForb Client to connect to the K3; however, the K3-mini continues to revert to the TERM mode while connecting to the remote K3. What is causing the K3-mini to go into the TERM mode when connecting to the K3? And, how can this be avoided? Thank you, Scott, WA0TPN -- Email: swlowe@...

Strange keyboard response when plugged into P3
Jim Pyle
I purchased a USB keyboard and plugged it into my P3. Hoping to use this setup for RTTY I set up some text files in several memories. They work fine. However, the Help menu indicates Ctrl-T will begin transmit and Ctrl-R will go to receive. In my case Ctrl-T does not activate transmit, Alt-T does. Ctrl-R returns it to receive. Anybody have any ideas why this is happening? Jim, AA8OY

I have my headset/ headphones on the external speaker with a volume control to reduce the level. No switching needed just grab the phones when desired and go. Phone volume slightly louder than speaker. The main reason I did this was to get more volume when using NR . 73 Mike R Find me on "Zello", a walkie talkie or handi talkie type app. I'm listed as KE5GBC. I'm mostly on late at night.

Re: K3/KPA500 modifying automatic band selection
Lee Hatfield
I would suggest the most simple fix; do not use 12m, with the amp turned on, and you will have no problem.
Keep using it and you Might have More problems. ;) There is a frequency counter built in the KPA500, when you use the amp, energized by any radio it will go to the correct band, there is no tune and load like an Ameirtron AL-811h etc. 73 K2HAT

K3/KPA500 modifying automatic band selection
Scott Townley
My KPA500 has a bum 12m LPF. I have the means to repair it, but in the
meantime, is there any way to adjust the band selection algorithm so that when I QSY to 12m on the K3, that the KPA500 goes to 10m? -- Scott NX7U

Re: [Elecraft_K3] K3s Newbie Questions
Rick Prather
I was a little troubled by the feel of the VFO when I first got my K3 seven years ago. However, after I adjusted the tension to about the weight of the knob it was acceptable to me. Over time I think the felt has worn in and now it is very nice.
BTW, I never make large frequency changes using the main knob. I do that with the RIT knob after I setup the VFO CRS function. Rick K6LE
