Care to explain? Mine seems to work just fine. What issues are you having? I have K3S with sub and DVR and some filters. Using CM500 mic plugged in rear mic jack. Mic sel is RPL BIAS and I have mic gain at 9 and CMP set to 17. I have some TX EQ set as well (-16,-16,-06, 0,0,3,2,0). ...nr4c. bill

Also some USB devices and cords can cause noise at times so lookout for that. Try unplugging or powering off nearby devices. Good luck. 73 Mike R Find me on "Zello", a walkie talkie or handi talkie type app. I'm listed as KE5GBC. I'm mostly on late at night.

WHY? Tony, if you are still on the fence. Send me an email at my call at arrl dot net. I think the whole 'labelling' thing SDR gen 1 vs SDR gen 3 is kind of silly. It's a manufactured name. Neither Elecraft, Kenwood, Yaesu or ICOM have ceded the entire Amateur Radio market space to FlexRadioSystems. Walt - kz1f

K3S owners in the CT, MA, RI area
miscwrc@...
Hi,
I am strongly considering getting a K3S. I would really like to see one and hear one first though. I am in Killingly, CT (NE CT). If there are any owners driving distance from there and wouldn't mind doing a show and tell, I would greatly appreciate it. I already have the KPA-500 and KAT-500. Additionally, I've spent the better part of 2 years listening to the fan boys on the IHeartFlex board, I'd like to hear the rejoinder. Thanks, Walt - kz1f

I would like to talk to a K3S owner who has easy access to the rear panel and can plug a headset into the back, and still transmit SSB. Dick, K8ZTT

Hallo Mike,
i simply don`t know what make this hiss. One interesting thing, i forgot to tell, is that hiss is constant present but slightly vary in strength. I have try to put some resistance in series with this headphones and this helps, but, that is es you cure something and you don`t know the relay cause. 73, Bozidar, S50BN

Re: [Elecraft_K3] K3 - background hiss (noisy K3) - update
Mel Farrer <farrerfolks@...>
Might I ask if you have tried to isolate the source? In the tube days a gentle hiss was attributed to the electron bombardment of the plate from the cathode and was never "completely" eliminated. While we are now in the days of SS, that issue is mute. However, I suggest as mentioned earlier, that you might have a external source of the "hiss". I would connect a scope to the audio output through a 1:1 audio isolation transformer and determine the frequency bandwidth and characteristics of the "hiss". Then start isolating the K3 from all connections down to running it on a floating battery. I do not have your "hiss" and I am totally battery powered from solar. That includes shorting the antenna terminals after reading your thread. Hope you find the source, Mel, K6KBE

He already has a k3, so I guess he's asking for advice on the k3s with the kind of operating he does.

I don't know if a k3s would be that beneficial someone not doing cw. What do others think. He already has not found the need for additional filters in his k3 it seems. Apparently he's already doing MARS on his k3. So, for voice and digital will the k3s be "noticeably" ahead of his K3 and why?Again he apparently has not found a need for narrow filters. 73 Mike R Find me on "Zello", a walkie talkie or handi talkie type app. I'm listed as KE5GBC.
