Re: [Elecraft_K3] K3/P3 video display on AM vs SSB

One other thing Grant is that when a BC station transmits a single tone, the sidebands at averaging or open should be 6 dB down.  It never is?  As a side note, my HP 8920 shows a proper power distribution in the sidebands?   Is what I am observing be some artifact of the DSP in the K3/P3 algorithm?

Re: [Elecraft_K3] K3/P3 video display on AM vs SSB

farrerfolks@...

Tried that, still the sideband sweet spot, Most power is still down considerably?? Not so with the SSB.  That is the CW level of peak carrier and the SSB are about right.  Just confusing.

Re: [Elecraft_K3] K3/P3 video display on AM vs SSB

Grant Youngman <nq5t@...>

Is the P3 averaging?  That would cause the side band energy to look like it is low. And many ham stations don't maintain 100% modulation on peaks consistently.

You might try turning off averaging (assuming it's on) and see how it looks.

More often the major energy is 20+ dB down from the carrier.  Comments appreciated.....

Glenn,
The current version of Firmware for the K3 is 5.29. 5.29 is the production version. There is no beta!
Use the “Copy New Files” button on the K3 Utility Firmware tab and then install those files.

Hi Wayne,

My new board has arrived today (thanks) and according to the instructions I need to install

the latest software version "5.1 or above".

When I check ifi the software available it doesn't list it, I have check on the BETA website trying to locate the ZIP file and nothing is there either.

The board hasn't been installed yet and I am wondering if it will make the software available when I try the update installer after the board has been fitted.

Thanks

Hello Don and others,

Thanks for your reply as well as others replied to me off-the-list.

Since there will be a new DSP board later this year, perhaps,I would simply wait for the new one to replace the entire board.

Johnny,

I suspect some oxidation has formed on the contact areas inside the
phone jack which are intended to connect/disconnect the speaker.
So yes, I would believe that changing the front panel phone jack will
fix it.

Re: KVX3B Install Headache

Update--finally got it going--instructions are misleading . You must update the software before proceeding , this is a must --otherwise you will not receive anything--. In addition the installation instructions are poor in my opinion--it is tricky to get the new I/O board aligned on the pins--i actually had to remove the side panel( thanks dana ve3ds) to get enough room to get the pins in.

Once the software was updated it works( at least so far). Preamp 2 shows and has gain. I also installed extra filters and i am having other issues setting those up but its probably me --not elecraft!

Btw i put in a new bpf but i noticed the pc board still says 2007--wonder if it is the right one?

The KVX3B board connectors don’t appear to be set back from the board edge like the KVX3A, so it makes for a sharp bend on the 6 inch jumpers that go the the internal transverter.
Better option would be to use smaller diameter teflon coax and push on connectors or better and more reliable fittings like SMA’s….

Tried a few times to send this from Outlook but keeps failing so trying again from yahoo groups web site..........

Following a firmware upgrade you may need to do what I had to do to get the internal speaker to come on when removing the front headphone jack?

In Config go to SPKR + PH. This should be set to “no” Then press the red number “1” button  and you can toggle between SW- and SW+. Just choose either of these until you get audio from the speaker. They changed the jack socket so some people need SW- and some SW+. For me SW- worked.
