I believe he said 9 o'clock.  I start to get distortion above 10 or 11 o'clock at times. When that happens its usually louder than I need it so I turn it down. 
It may be dependent on the received voice. 

Auto notch and agressive NB have been issues. I think auto notch was improved in firmware. It wasn't a problem for me.

I usually run my K3 speaker out through an MFJ-784B Digital Filter, and can easily get that distortion by turning the AF gain too high and over driving the the digital filter input, which is set to a medium level.
