S3 With Downconverter option
Wily
Hello!
Can anyone tell me what the sensitivity of the FMD-S3 with a downconverter is above 110MHz?
I connected three receivers with the splitter: FDM-S3, R&S EB200 and RTL-SDR.
I found that R&S EB200 and RTL-SDR are more sensitive than FDM-S3.
I compared the received signals of Avia (129 MHz) and APCO-25 (423 MHz).
With the R&S EB200 and RTL-SDR signals can be heard loud and clear.
With the FDM-S3 with Preamp 2 ON, I can see the signal on the waterfall, but the audio is weak and hard to read.
Best regards!

Once the signal gets to the rig it doesn't care where it came from.

I would suspect a problem in the down conversion. Mike W9MDB On Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 06:45:43 AM CDT, Wily <wily@...> wrote:

Vilnis,
Open a support ticket. My unit is more sensitive than the Malahit DSP2 (original russian version), Airspy R2 clone and Whistler TRX-1. Ivan |

Hi, Ivan!
Thanks for the reply!
First of all, I would like to know some numbers in dBm, mkV or something similar.
All Technical Specifications are given for 91.1MHz, i.e. without downconverter.
Up to 108MHz everything is very good.
From 108MHz to 4.25GHz, I think the sensitivity of my FDM-S3 is low.
Best regards,
Vilnis

Wow, wonderful!
Some are lucky, the dealer told me that there is no such data.
Thank you!

This data was given on this group some time ago. There is no mention of bandwidth but I expect that the MDS is shown in 500Hz BW as is normally the case. This means that the noise figures as indicated in the table below.

Measured in what bandwidth?

ARRL published the standard in 1975....500Hz width....so one would like to assume they used that standard. Rob's testing of the ELAD DUO showed -132dBm but I don'/t see the frequency being measure -- I'll have to ask Rob. Mike W9MDB

I did say that ‘I expect that the MDS is shown in 500Hz BW as is normally the case! This is what Elad normally use so I very much doubt they changed this trend. Better to actually read the post that try to look clever.
