Hello
Are there any specific cw settings in the Elad Duo?
this mode seems a little “choppy” and is difficult to send the C in my call - wants to omit the last dah and dit - sends as a k about half the time.
any help appreciated!

Paul,

Check Manual, menu item 41, for iambic mode "A" or "B".

In general: before operating any Radio: RTFM!

Here is a web link to some explanation of the difference between iambic mode "A" and "B".
Try out which one fits to your personal CW iambic sending style.
The "DUO" internal keyer can do both variants.

In case you have never before operated in any of the two (there are some more) iambic modes,
it's just a matter of which mode may capture the physical movement process of your fingers
with respect to the 2 paddles better in order to result in a "clean" CW sending signal.

Just try it out!

Hi Klaus,

Thank you for the information.
It is not my choice of modes....I have been a cw op for 40 years and I have read the manual.
For some reason the radio is shortening or omitting some cw characters. My K3 is fluid, no issues.
I appreciate the AG6QR article.

Paul,

This has surely piqued my interest.  I've had a FDM DUO for two weeks and, other than setting up the software and listening around the bands, have yet to put the rig on the air.

I run 100% CW and hadn't heard about this issue.  I will both follow this thread closely (Hoping you get some useful responses) and will test my own radio to rate its CW performance.

Thanks and 73

I never had this issue, but out of curiosity I ve fiddled a bit with settings.

I got something like that if :

- using a paddle and operating manually
- Menu #37 is set to Paddle+DTR

then sends K instead C more often than not. Goes back to normal (or what is intuitively expected) when #37 is set to paddle.

my 2c, hope it helps.

I HAVE ALSO NOTICED THE PROBLEM USING THE PADDLES WHEN #37 IS SET TO PADDLES-dtr.  So when using the paddles, I use the menu option for just PADDLES.

After some testing I find that iambic B and the  paddle only menu settings solved the problem for me. Now the keying is fluid.
Thank you for the help and suggestions.
