Updated USB drivers for S2 radio?
daiche <daiche@...>
My S2 radio works fine on a few year old desktop and a 2nd gen I7 Toshiba laptop. However, the S2 is not happy with a new HP Envy 13 laptop. The audio continuously crackles when I start the radio above 768K bandwidth. I also have a G33DDC SDR radio which has no problem at full 5Mhz bandwidth on the Envy laptop. Winradio has it's own driver, so I suspect the 2014 Elad driver needs an update. I tried a complete delete/install of the driver a 2nd time. This was a 1st time install of the Elad software. BTW, SDR Console, and HDSDR also exhibit the same problem with the Elad S2, while the G33 works just fine at full bandwidth on all 3 software packages. Is there a newer than 2014 USB driver for the Elad S2?

Hi Dave, I faced a similar problem about a year ago while trying to connect ELAD S2 to new Asus (Intel chipset) and HP (AMD chipset) laptops. At a bandwidth above 768 kHz, artifacts appeared (missing data samples). It seems that disabling power management of USB ports in Windows 10 Device Manager helped me partially, and as a result, ELAD S2 worked correctly on new laptops only with the latest versions of SDRConsole. I described the problem in the SDR Radio group, but no concrete solution was found (https://forum.sdr-radio.com:4499/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=279&start=10). Could be USB power issues. First try with a powered hub, 99% of the time this solves similar problems.

I'm using this Audio connection. You pay for but once for a lifetime.

Hi Simon!
I've tried powered hubs, even a new USB-C hub with both USB2 and USB3 ports. My Winradio G33 doesn't have any trouble except at the 5Mhz bandwidth there is occasional crackle. So there is something about the ports on the HP Envy 13 that doesn't like the ELAD S2 so much, except at 768Khz bandwidth or below. Maybe a compact laptop is not so good after all other than size. BTW, the G33 doesn't need a powered hub to run OK, so there must be some interaction between the ELAD and laptop. Dave Aichelman N7NZH Grants Pass, OR |
