3 days ago I received a new FMD-S3, which I have up and running. Looking at the antenna input connections on the back I see a HF 1, HF 2 (Bias Tee) and VHF 2 (Bias TEE). So my question is since I see no VHF connection without the bias tee, is there a way the turn off the VHF bias tee?

Hi Everett,

I don't have an S3, but checking the manual I found this:

"The FDM-S3 has two antenna biases, one for the HF-1 input and one for the VHF input. The supplied voltage is 5V. They are activated and deactivated via the FDM-SW2 software."

Not being a fan of the Elad software with my S2 (I US Console), I haven't kept it up to date. Perhaps there is an option in one of the latest software versions. I suspect Bill Nollman will know how, if it is possible. Also, perhaps Simon has a "button" for this in his S3 implementation with Console.

Good luck and congrats on having an S3.

George,

Thanks for you help. I too am not a fan of the SW2 software, I use SDR Console.

Hi Everett,

I like Console. Did Simon have a way to kill the Bias Tee in his S3 implementation? If not, you could drop him a message.

Take care,
George

George,

I will take a deeper look in the morning and if I figure it out I will shot a email to Simon.

It can be found at SDR-Console without any problems, look in the
Radio Configuration, there you can set Bias-T and also the filters.

Have fun with it, regards Uwe

I am using Console, but when the VHF-UHF converter will be supported?

The topic has been raised so often, the hype has died down, there is no date when the converter
will be available, if I had known at the time I would have stayed with my FDM-S2, I now see the
FDM-S3 as dead capital . Too bad.

Thanks Uwe, that should do the trick.

hi Uwe,
I understand.
Am I the only one who owns the converter?

Would you like to sell it??

The way the S3 works is that on the "HF 2" and the "VHF" connectors, BiasTee voltage is available (but by default turned off) and it needs to be enabled in software.
The "HF 1" connector has no capability to provide BiasTee, so it does not have any marking on the back panel.
SDR console has options to enable BiasTee on the HF2 and VHF connectors independently.
Thanks.

They should have made the bias tee voltages 12VDC instead of 5VDC. Your just not going to get very good performance using 5VDC on an active antenna, which will have very low P1dB.

Hi Pete,
sorry, I keep it.
I hope one day Simon Brown will support the converter.
Meanwhile I will use the SW3 software.

Ah,

Just saw this. When used in IQ mode there's no control over Bias-T, so I suggest switching it on/off before starting SDR Console.

When I have one to test the implementation. As far as I know, they are not currently available due to component shortages.

(Probably available but i missed it!)
