Configuring CAT in FDM-SW2 Software - Help Needed
Feel like I'm close, as both rigs are showing up as green in the FDM software's Omnirig Control panel. Problem is when I tune the Elad, it initiates the CAT command, tunes my Icom 7300 as requested, and then immediate sets itself back to 0 Hz. The Icom stays on the tuned frequency. Very strange stuff.
The settings are fairly basic, and I've tried all 3 CAT modes. All produce the same problem. Thanks for any assistance! -- 73 de Bill / KG6NRV |

Hello Bill,
have you resolved the described issue? I'm having the same... Seem OmniRig (1.19) is working OK (SDR-Radio SW works OK through OmniRig) but FDM-SW2 (3.027) behaves exactly you wrote... "when I tune the Elad, it initiates the CAT command, tunes my Icom 7300 as requested, and then immediate sets itself back to 0 Hz. The Icom stays on the tuned frequency" Thanks for help! Stepan |

Hi Stepan. I have not really resolved the issue. I finally today received a support email from Vianney. He suggested creating a virtual port split off from my computer's physical COM port and using that virtual port for apps such as WSJT and CW Skimmer. Then simply checking the omnirig box in the SW-2 settings. However this port splitting didn't work for me. Perhaps because I'm using vspMgr instead of VSPE, which he uses in his experiment.
I think the best option is to use HDSDR software to control your Elad rig. When I tested this, it immediately recognized my omnirig settings and synced all radios and software perfectly. As far as I can tell, Elad's implementation of Omnirig is non-standard. Perhaps someone has a better answer as I'd prefer to use Elad's software, however it simply won't work for this use case. I'm also exploring an app called RigSync to perform these functions. Haven't tried it yet. -- Bill / KG6NRV |

Hey Bill,
Please see this fileÑ https://groups.io/g/EladSDR/files/A%20Set%20of%20Instructions%20Installing%20WSJTX-FLDIG-FDM-SW2%20and%20other%20apps/SETUP%20FDM-DUO-to-FDM-SW2+PC+WSJT+FLDIGI%20%281%29.pdf Also, when port splitting, suggest that you ensure you´ve booted up the DUO before running the splitter profile, otherwise it won´t see the port being split and will error. Also, if you don´t have enough USBs and are running a USB buss externally, suggest connecting 100% of all USB cables to the external buss, not using the other USBs on the PC itself. 73, Patrick KM5L |

Hello Bill,
I found the way how the OmniRig works with FDM-SW2... Set in the OmniRig (v1.19) only the 1th (RIG1) radio! Don't set the 2nd radio (RIG) at all...keep NONE in Rig type. In this configuration, when only one (RIG1) radio is configured in the OmniRig the FDM-SW2 listen the comands from the radio and works as it should. Please let me know if it works for you too. Hi Patrick, that setup appears to differ from mine quite a bit. My radio is an S2.
I don’t think it even uses a COM port, everything is over USB also I’m currently using a different port splitter, though I actually own VSPE. I wonder if that makes any difference. -- Bill / KG6NRV |

Hi Stepan. I will give this a try, but I’m wondering is your Rig 1 your ICOM rig or your Elad rig? I currently have my 7300 as Rig 1 and WSJT-x set to Omnirig.

My RIG1 is IC-7300
RIG2 is NONE OmniRig activated in FDM-SW2 and this software drives ELAD receiver FDM-S2 I even didn’t know that WSJT-X can work with OmniRig.. Stepan |

Hi Stepan, deleting Rig 2 makes for a very simple setup, but it doesn't work for me. I wonder if you can tell me more about your setup:
Is your 7300 connected via USB or CAT port? Is Omnirig set to the same port as your 7300 as shown in Device Manager, or are you using a Virtual Port such as one created by VSPE? In your FDM-S2 control tab are you using RX-1 to RX-4? And if so, does their port settings match your 7300's physical or Virtual port? I will share with you a couple of screen shots, different setups I've tried. Perhaps you can see something that differs from your setup. Thank you! -- Bill / KG6NRV |

Tom Blahovici
Hi,
Win4IcomSuite developer here. There is clearly an issue with FMD-SW2 software and the use of Omni-Rig. This has been determined with the use of a serial port sniffer. With a direct connection to the radio, the Elad software issues a CIV command of 25 00. The radio responds with the proper frequency information in the reply. There are no errors at all in the Omni-rig stream. The software responds by setting it's display to 0 HZ. Clicking in the spectrum sends the frequency to the radio correctly but since the frequency in Elad, is now centered at 0 Hz the radio is then tuned to wherever you clicked (e.g. 400kHz for example). Thus do not waste your time trying to fix any Omni-Rig installations. The developers of the software need to do the fix. Do they read this group? From, what I have heard support is not that good. 73 Tom |

Hmm, I had no issue using Omnirig with my icom IC-7700. It provided perfect synchronization. I didn't like the fact that enabled omnirig in SW2 also forces "Lock to CF" mode which was a show stopper for me. (see https://groups.io/g/EladSDR/message/16303?p=,,,20,0,0,0::Created,,posterid%3A984074,20,2,0,68852143) so I ended up writing my own program for synchronization but other than that it worked fine.
I do recall tho I had some issue if I tried to the s2 outside the frequency range of the ic-7700 but can't remember now what the symptom was. |

Hi Tom, you heard wrong about support. If someone with the specific issue raises a detailed fault ticket, and it is sortable and important enough, it will get fixed. This issue has been a niggle for a long time, so it's good to know that you've found the root cause. Can you send your sniffer results in a post to the group so a ticket can be raised and the problem investigated? Neil G4DBN On 30/12/2019 17:36, Tom Blahovici

I have opened a new support ticked with this information. Many thanks to Win4IcomSuite developer Tom Blahovici for his expertise and generosity in helping me narrow down the problem. Clearly above and beyond his normal call of duty.
I'm well aware that FDM-SW2 Omnirig sync has worked well for some others, though I've had no success even after multiple rounds of email communication from Vianney which have extended over weeks and months. Perhaps this new information will make the problem more approachable. I do love the S2 radio and the SW2 software; they both remain at the state of the art even years after their release. Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that a software engineer can join me on a remote access session to finally put this to rest. -- Bill / KG6NRV |
