WSJT-X Fox/Hound

I have read many of the previous threads about not being able to work in F/H mode with the TS480 selected as the radio in WSJT-X.

Now since the DUO is a individual selection on the radio tab of WSJT-X should we be able to work F/H mode and if so should "Rig" or "Fake It" be selected?

Hi Jim, I haven't seen any of the discussions about F/H, but I can confirm that "Fake It" works fine with the new FDM-DUO Hamlib in WSJT-X when running split for low transmit tones in FT8.  That worked fine in the old TS480 though.  However, I can now run CAT PTT without hitting the lock-up race condition that used to afflict the TS-480 driver.

I think there is no reason to use Rig, as the DUO is perfectly happy to flip frequency on the main VFO using Fake-It.  Maybe some old rigs work better using "real" split?

I guess you need a friend to set up a fake dxpedition mode station to try out the facility!

I must see if any of my other Hamlib-enabled programs now have the DUO as an option for radio type.

Sorry I totally forgot who did the Hamlib coding for the DUO, but it looks like it is working.  Brilliant.

The reason I asked was that I got a response from T31EU while he was in F/H mode this morning but could not complete the QSO. If you start up F/H mode with none selected for split you get an error message saying you should have Rig or Fake It selected.. I'll go ahead and use Fake It for normal WSJT-X and see how it goes.

Thanks

Should work perfectly well Jim, the program just sends the usual F 14xxxxxx Hamlib call when it goes to transmit in Fake It mode, then another one when it goes back to receive.  That will set your TX frequency correctly to where the program wants you to transmit.  Fake It just tells the radio to move to another frequency, whereas Rig tries to set the VFO A and B and flip between them.  Modern SDRs can flip frequency very rapidly so there is no need to use old-style split.

Hope it works for you and you make it with the T31!
