Re: FDM S2 distortion problem with Acer Laptop #fdm-s2

Ron Liekens

Roland, have you tried other programs like SDRconsole v3 or HDSDR to see if its also the same happening there? If not, there is a problem with the SW2 version you use. If not your pc might be at fault here. Seems there are a number of audio problems in Windows 10 that are still not resolved after all these years. Also the input of the FDM-S2 can be overloaded due to a very strong signal within the receiving passband. You can try to set it to a 384 kHz sample rate and see if this still happening. If not, you can be shure have an overload of the adc coming from a broadcast nearby your home.

Add me to the list of broken ELAD-DUO Feet.

Seems from this series that it is a pervasive problem.

IS ANYONE AT ELAD PAYING ATTENTION?

ART/ -120 with N1MM

Charles Ristorcelli

Is anyone using the N1MM Logger plus contest logging program with the ELAD-DUO or ELAD -DUO/ART-120?

If yes, what are the configuration settings you are using.

I presume the radio told to N1MM configurer is the TS-480.

Other than that, the rest of the set up should be almost the default for the TS-480, but I can not get the N1MM + ART/120 to work.

The front plastic feet on my Dou-Art 120 have broken.  They never seemed to be strong enough to support the weight of the unit.

I have spoken to US Elad support and was told metal feet are being developed.  Are they available?  If not, how can I order replacement plastic ones?

Roland,

Just a thought:
Perhaps by  using Task Manager and monitoring the activities you can determine what process activates when the distortion occurs. That may point you in the right direction.

The use case I was trying to solve is when the radio / sw2 are not working the way you had hoped it to ie transmit power or mic is not working etc.  It would be handy to have a sort of "debug" view of all the settings on one page in the sw app.  Of course it would be great if you set them on that page.  I will write a script to do it but it seems it would be a standard feature for a radio and software that is sooooo configurable that it can become complicated and complex to figure out what is going on at times.

Ok thanks - Elad should consider adding them to the duo manager is SW2, it would be helpful.  I have to write a program but after the 20 other projects I have going 😎.

Hello,

I purchased my ELAD FDM-DUO this past February. I am the original owner. My setup includes the below listed items.

-FDM-DUO Transceiver with MARS/MOD
-ELAD Speaker
-ICOM HM-198 Microphone
-DC Fused Lead
-USB Cables x2
-USB Drive for Firmware
-Speaker Cable

$1030 shipped. (CONUS ONLY0 $1000 local pick-up.

This setup has very low hours. I dabble in QRP and had to try this out. I frequently buy and try, then move on to the next venture. Like others, I am very impressed with the capabilities of this transceiver. Definitely an awesome platform.

In addition to the listed items. I used the RM Ital HLA-150v and HLA-300v HF amplifiers. I also used an MFJ-993B autotuner. These items are also for sale. All my items are in pristine condition and operate without issue.

I prefer pick-up, so you can inspect and test. I will only meet with the limits of my Village. My town is small, so best visit my shack. My listed price includes shipping within CONUS only. If picked up, the price will be reduced $30.

I do no own, buy or sell junk!

Thanks for looking.

Please produce metal feet for the duo!  It's a SHAME that such a great radio has such BAD engineering for the feet.

Hello Mike!

Thanks for answer! I have checked and all the soundsettings are "standard". I have tested to disconnect every other device and only using the battery power on the laptop but nothing of these measures changed the distortion problem. I can´t recall that I had this problem with my old home PC (W7 and the same Elad-receiver). I am using the USB 3-connection on the laptop (W10). I think this is rather mysterious because the distortion appears once in a minute, with exactly one minute in between and lasts a few seconds. To me it seems like something in the laptop is automatically activated every once in a minute and that it somehow interfere with the ELAD.
