Re: CAT USB port

Can I suggest to use AUX "serial" port ?
It uses 3v rs232 serial port, comaptible vith Arduino and can supply 5V (i've used to power up a Bluetooth serial adaptor).
Not sure it can power up the Arduino.
You can avoid serial/usb adaptor, using some resistor to adapt Arduino rs232 TX 5V to 3V. For arduino rs232 RX no need to adapt voltage.
If interested you can see some arduino sketches on ELAD website.

ART-120 Failure

Charles Ristorcelli

Was in the middle of a QSO with ELAD-FDM DUO/ART-120.

I use ART-120 as power source for FDM-DUO.

Suddenly ART-120 shut off.

Input power to ART-120 is strong and operational.

Turned ART-120 off and on again using rear main power switch on ART-120.

ART-120 still dead.

Is there a fuse inside the ART-120? There is none on rear.

Hate to think I need to ship to manufacturer for repair. But if I have to, I guess it is what it is.

Suggestions?

Try menu 11 on the FDM Duo.  That should adjust the volume of the side tone of the radio when using the radios (headphone) output.  I use that audio because of the latency of the audio from the computer.

How is the CW receive audio sidetone adjusted?

My receive sidetone sounds horrible.

So you have USB in reverse ?
Serial commands to a USB [pseudo] master ?

Thanks Andy. I have seen your article.

What I am trying to do is a little bit different, that is to generate CAT ASCII commands using an Arduino, then send them out from a SoftwareSerial TX output, via an FTDI Serial -> USB module. Which is then connected to the CAT USB port.

It all works when the FTDI is connected back to my Macbook and I use a serial terminal program to see what is arriving. But I have not yet tested it on my FDM-DUO as I need the right cable to connect them together.

What I want to avoid is power coming back into the FTDI USB port from the FDM-DUO as this will conflict with the power supply to the Arduino!

That’s very interesting. What is your interface to the FDM-DUO? 9 pin connector or CAT USB? I have CAT usb working and could implement any CAT command… don’t have a fancy screen though…

Just to say that I now have a touch screen version of the band change working on an Arduino Mega and a 3.5 " screen. Does NR/NB on/Off with RIT as well

easy install and upgrade - i have to vote for the larger display (but it's really not that larger on a laptop)...

what i appreciate is the ability to backspace on freq entry (although ESC worked for me before)

still lots to learn w/SW2...

Re: CAT USB port

The standard CAT port is a USB interface with internal serial conversion so you won't be using a serial converter like the FTDI   Being a USB-B port it won't supply +5V
BUT...........

If you want only to SEND commands to the FDM you can use the 9 pin D-connector as I do here for an external frequency-setting  keypad
That supplies power

Like said before, I also like the large frequency display and would like to have larger display of playback time, too. Now I have to use a magnifier with my hi-res laptop to verify the time I am at!

I think there is a newer version being worked on to support the extra S3 options like the gps support etc.

Personally i prefer the larger frequency display much better if running hires displays or 4K display makes it easier to read....

Also I haven’t got my new S3 yet, and I still have to produce the new help videos that explain all the great features of the S3

Hope to have it next week, also great news for the S2 owners, you should be able to use the 50mhz to 2ghz add on which is an external box... Available late summer, stay tuned.. 16bit up to 2ghz great for L-band etc....

Re: FDM-DUO with low power drive BLF188 / eb104 solid state type amplifer? #eladduo #fdm-duo

Marko Myllymaki

I'm using FDM-Duo with Juma PA1000.  Mostly with FT8 at 700 W out with reduced voltage 50 volts on LDMOS 1x BLF188.  If I put normal LDMOS voltage 55 volts (it is menu selection in amplifier), then can get 900W-1kW out on CW with FDM-Duo drive.  Take a look at specs, it is very small and light, ideal for DX peditions or travel.  Bit pricey and noisy, but you can also remote it and have it at distance if noise is problem.  http://www.jumaradio.com/juma-pa1000/

I also have RF-Kit2k+ with 2x BLF189 and it would work too but usually I have it on my K3 radio, so have not operated very much it with FDM-Duo.  With 13 dB pad I have in it it would not give me full legal power on all bands like 15m and up, but probably on lower bands it will get full legal power out with drive levels of FDM-Duo.  And internal pad could be changed to 10 dB or something like that.  RF-Kit that DX Engineering is selling will probably have bigger pad in it and will require more drive.

S2: How can I simulate RIT function?

Bill Alpert

I like to use my S2 alongside my IC-7300. They share an RF signal, using the PTRX-7300 board installed in the Icom rig. Surprising how much more I can hear in the noise, when listening to the Elad, compared to the 7300.

In CW mode is there some way to simulate/emulate the RIT function of my ICOM rig? I'm looking for a simple way to zero beat without chasing another station up and down the band.

Any ideas appreciated!

I can live with it although a check box to enable/disable “ugly, larger display” would be nice 😊

The filename fix is good news. Thank you for letting us know.

I don’t suppose the ugly, larger new frequency display has been reverted back to the old style?

Hello,

There is a new beta version to the FDM-SW2 software. Version 3.037.

http://eladit.com/download/sdr/FDM-sw2%20Software/Under%20test/index.php?lang=EN

Most important thing is that this is fixed:

3. fixed issue during files sequence playback, the name of the file did not

change when the file number increased

There are also a few mentions of the FDM-S3.

Unfortunately still no possibility to jump to previous file when in Play back.
