I got it working again. No joke, I hit it with my fist, and whala! It works. Sorry for the troubles.

I don't think people are suggesting it as a workaround but of more a "process of elimination" in terms of the root of the problem.

Chad as an addition to what Otso wrote you can try another software like SDR-console to check it it is a software or a harware related problem. Elad SW2 software can crash due to a number of reasons like bad database files etc... This does not mean your radio is broke. Have had some troubles in the past.

Best of luck!

Hi Chad,

Have you tried with another PC? I had a similar issue wih a receiver, where some of the persistent settings were causing the crash even after reinstalling SW2. It may have been either the files in the Users\...\ELAD folder or in Windows registry. I never found out.

Aihe: [elad_sdr_en] My FDM-S2 has stopped working

I have had my S2 for a little over 1 year. It probably only has about 50 hours of listening time on it. Today I went to use it and it will not work. The power light comes on, and the USB shows as connected within my device manager, but when I click the SW2 program icon, it crashes and a window pops up saying, "ELAD FDMSW2 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program. If I leave the FDM-S2 off and click the icon, the SW2 program works in offline mode just fine.

I have completely uninstalled the SW2 program and reinstalled the 1-43 version with no luck. Same with the beta version. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Respectfully,

Chad KG7PTZ

This features take time and the remove of the initial T/R switch that we had put inside.

I thought it was a transceiver. My mistake. I stand corrected. $3500 for FCC certification for an ADC connected to an antenna - wow!

Looks like a nice addition to the ELAD line of SDRs. I want one. I like the fact that it has an external 10MHz reference input at this price point.

Re: IF spectrum form

Chris,

the three buttons have the intention to switch the functionality of left click of the mouse: Tune, Set marker 1 or set marker 2, this is important of IF windows, because here the spectrum have more resolution than in main Windows.

Re: VS: Position of sub-windows

Wolf

Hi Otso,
I have five screens to handle. You can guess what that can mean, when every time the window pops up somewhere else.

With my soft I have managed it like this: Every window knows on what screen it is and
where. If I loose my windows (they may be ouside the visible area), I press "W" for 'Windows' while starting my Programs and all windows are cascaded on the main/starting windows. I too, keep the coordinates of each window inside an "*.ini-file", so I can correct things manually. And - as a benefit - my windows have "magnets", that means that they stick together when they come very close to each other.

With a software so great there should be at least a bit of it. A really great tool always needs a great handling... at least that is what I think about it.
Of course the crew is busy with a lot of other stuff, so we will have to wait. But I was just wanting to know 'if' and app. 'when' this will come into focus.

Hi Wolfgang,

This is a great proposal. It takes quite a bit of effort to arrange the windows each time you start the software.

For me, the most needed sib-windows are the RDS and IF windows. I have currently three monitors and two FDM-S2 receivers. I want to have all of the 2x4 virtual receivers active with these sub-windows nicely placed on certain places. Some of the RDS windows tend to go hide outside of the visible screen area…

I think all the sub-windows (and even the settings window) should have their coordinates relative to the SW2 main window. Only the main window position would need to be stored with fixed coordinates.

Hello all!

Having the ELAD FDM DUO for 3 weeks I have learned that is is better in
all ways than my FT-857D and IC-720. Glad to have a radio where
receiving is "just point 'n' do".
And I am still a beginner to this radio. Best Buy for me!

Of course there are things that could improove. For me it is a bad thing
that almost all sub-windows can not remeber their position. I have more
than one monitor connected and it is no fun to hunt over the screens to
where the window has popped up.
Those are "Setup", "FDM-DUO Stand Alone Control", "DX-ClusterInterface",
"Station List", "Contacts" a.s.o.

Is there a plan to make all windows remember their positions?

Re: No power output on TX still ongoing ???

neil@...

Hi Ian, I had this happen a couple of times on the previous beta firmware/software, but not had any recurrence since upgrading to 107beta.  I am using a 4-port USB3.0 expansion card on an i7 running Win8.1

I always boot up the PC, then once it is up and running, I turn on the DUO and then give it 10 seconds before starting SW2.  I think you said it made no difference what order you started things up?

Only fault I have on startup is that occasionally the PTT setting reverts to PTT only instead of PTT+RTS and the CW IN resets to KEY instead of KEY+DTR, so I get no transmit from N1MM+ or WSJT or Logger32.  I now have macros set to force the correct settings for HF or VHF or contest mode.

I am fairly sure that when mine refused to produce any power that I checked it was set correctly to 5.0W and using main antenna, not the 0dBm, and that the PTT settings were correct and TX ENABLE was set and the band edge settings were sensible, but I don't have any notes. All I had to do was power-cycle the DUO once to fix it.  Wish I'd taken note of the full details of all the radio settings.

I could never reproduce the fault when I used my spare laptop instead of the main shack PC.

I take it that all your DUO menu settings do look the same whether the TX is producing power or when it fails?  I will check menu 30, 31, 32, 34, 35, 36 (maybe 37, 39, 40), 49, 54, 55 and 56 if I can get the fault to recur,

I do have a weird PTT polling thing going on when I connect any other USB device, which makes the DUO go into transmit along with the amplifiers about three times as it polls.  Doesn't seem to cause any problems though.

I am on UI 4.48, USB 4.09, Rx 1.24, Tx 1.25, FPGA 2.00 SW2 1.107beta

Sorry I don't remember the detail of your fault, was it the same when you swapped it to USB2.0 and USB3.0 ports and did the fault stay the same when you tried it on different computers?
