Re: Elad FDM DuoR AM filter bandwidth

If you use software the AM bandwidth is whatever you
want it to be. To be honest, I've had my DUOr for several years
and have never yet used it as a stand-alone receiver
so cannot answer your question.

Cheers, Chris

However looking at the User manual AM filter bandwidth is listed as 2.5Khz - 6Khz in 500 Hz steps which seem a better choice.

Can anyone confirm what the AM filter bandwidth options are?
Thank you.

Hi Tim, SW2 works fine even at 122 GHz on the display.  The DUO in standalone (or with a computer in the hybrid modes) can be set to have an offset to make the display show transverter RF frequencies, you can set it using menu 60 to enable offset and menu 61 to set it.  Both can be done via CAT as well.  The DUO drops the most significant digits so if you set 1296.200000, it displays 296.200000 but that's not a problem, I use 368.x for 3cm, 320.x for 13cm and so on.

I think there's a way to sho the dropped MSBs, but I don't bother.

If you are using digimodes via the USB audio input, it is uncompressed, so you can set the power on the 0dBm output by adjusting the audio level from the WSJT-X slider.  I use a couple of Anglians to get me to 144 MHz for the higher bands, but there is a neat mod that Andy G4JNT has on his website to give you 144 MHz capability without a transverter.

Tim,

I use the FDM-DUO as a driver for my Khune 432 & 1296 MHz transverters.

- The 0 dbm output port is not adjustable.

- The SW2 software will accomodate a transverter offset and display the transverter TX frequency.  The FDM-DUO will only display the driver frequency.

The FDM-DUO performs very well with a transverter.

goodafternoon

After a long time I am using the original SW2 software again.

I like it this time very much. It is only us it to listen to mediumwave.

Only there is one thing that I would like to be available in the software.

When using the "E " key to choose ECSS it would nice if you could press it several times.
first time Lower
second time Duo
third time Upper
fourth time lower again
And so on.

Maybe this not the right place for a request. But maybe Vianney could pass the request to the correct people ?  Would aprecciate this very much.
And maybe I am the only one in the world that likes the sofware to work this way ?

With kind regards

A shipment to ELAD USA with also the TMates should take place next week.

Regarding the S3 downconverter, we hope so to not arrive to the second anniversary of this message... We could begin selling it but at an unreasonable price (nearly 2000€), and this is not our intention. The fact is that the worldwide supply issues of electronic components give us a lot of obstacles regarding the production process. An example : today quote for available Si5338 is almost 450€, for 1 piece.

To pick up words from one of the messages below; those who have expressed an interest have not yet been served.

We keep going forward anyway, regards,

Vianney

Ok this is an official update, just got off phone with Franco, he is tweaking one of the boards in the Downconverter before design is finalized, improving the sensitivity on the higher bands. He/me hope to have it in beta next month (April) and for sale not long after that. It can be installed from the factory or here at EladUSA in SC or it can easily be customer installed, one usb connector and an SMA to the back panel.

Still no price currently, but it will be available very soon.

As soon as I get more info/testing I will post more...

A few pieces have been shipped to some people to be field-tested.

We are fighting with manufacturers and suppliers to be able to produce other pieces and satisfy your requests.

I'm not talking about pre-order but you can manifest your interest for the S3 Downconverter opening a support ticket.

Hi Vittori,

thank you for your response.
It is a pitty, that this software is not available any more. I still have the demo version, but would like to register it.
As soon as I got hold of the small monitor years ago, Woodboxradio completely vanished....

Can you tell me, who currently owns the rights for this software?

you would set them differently.

That was a good guess, Bill. Now I remember that I had similar problems before I started to use the Profiles. Now I select the correct Profile (like "MW Band" or "FM Band") before pressing the red button.

If it is still happening can you please send a screen shot or both recording and playback?

My guess would be that your LO is not set to midband (I use 1,120kHz). That has happened to me from time to time.

Hello,

I doubt the problem is related to the version of SW2 you are using. While I am aldeady at 3.55, I have recorded the AM band using the 1.5 MHz bandwidth with each recent version of the programme without experiencing such an issue. I suppose you have cheched the Settings/Advanced tab for which bandwidth is being used?

I have saved differend banwidth configurations (1.5 and 24 MHz) to Profiles for easy access.

Just updated my Elad FDM -S2 to version 3.52 and finding that it is not recording the whole AM band from 530 - 1710 kHz. It's stopping at about 1100 kHz for some reason. On the recording section I have listed the frequencies from 530 to 1710 kHz. How do I resolve the problem?
Many thanks

Findings on SW2 3.55

Otso Ylönen

Hi,

I moved to SW2 3.55 last week and I have been happy with the new features introduced. Especially, I like the possibility to now use the Station Memories window while playing back my recordings. As most of the stations I have saved to memory locations are MW stations operating on "their own" offset frequencies, it is now easy to jump directly to these frequencies. As an example, I could mention the Peruvian Radio Santa Rosa on ~1499.746 and Colombian La Voz de la Raza on ~1200.173.
Another new thing, that I can now experiment with is the ability to use the Equalizer when listening to my recordings!

***

A bug in recording when disk full

I did quite a few MW recordings during four days/nights over the last weekend. I used my S3 and two S2 receivers to record the MW band with three different antennas. The PC I used was a Lenovo P50 with a decent i7 processor, 32 GB RAM and an internal 4TB Samsung EVO-860 SSD in addition to its hard drive. All recording sessions but one succeeded as they have with earlier versios of SW2.

The recording session that failed, went to the ELAD/FDM-SW2/Recordings directory on C drive (the HD) for some unknown reason. I did not notice this when I pressed the REC button on each of the three instances of SW2. The HD did not have sufficient space. As I have intentionally removed the Low Disk Warning, the recording started normally. However, when the HD got full, it still "continued recording" without giving me any hint that the space is full. I ended up with one complete, one partial and two empty (1kB) IQ files for each of the three receivers. See attached image.

While I think the root cause of this failure, i.e. not recording on my specified location (drive E:), may be caused either by SW2, Windows or my laptop, I would have expected SW2 to clearly to indicate when the HD became full. My understadning is that a tick on the low disk warning tickbox on the Recording Settings only means that there is no warning when starting the recording session. Am I right on this? I have disabled the warning in order to make the start of recording as quick as possible.
