DK80K's observations are the first that I have seen that are more "review" than "sales pitch."  Are there other reviews out there?  This morning I Googled (English only)  and found nothing current.  Long ago Tom Witherspoon of The SWLing Post wrote that he would review the S3.  Does he have one?  How about other regularly reviewers of HF gear?

BTW:  Since late November, I have been a very happy owner of an S3 with the crystal oven.

Milliherz accuracy, wow!

Now I have to give the Console another change! However, I would really like to se similar accuracy in SW2.

Thanks Fenu. Just noticed it on the S3 manual found on the Elad website. Are you going to make a follow-up video and a test rapport?

Hi Ron,

The S3 comes only with the Bypassfilter in Slot 8.
All other Filters are option.

Fenu, is the FDM-S3 sold without filters?

Danila, congratulations with the new Laptop. Have you tried a BIOS and a Motherboard update when you started to use this new laptop? I recently build a new desktop and had several problems with the chipset and USB ports. After I updated the chipset drivers all was OK. Also run the latest BIOS to be safe. Sometimes bugs with very new machines are present but mostly fast detected by the manufacturer and updated via new drivers. Also many brands offer an automatic update service.

Good luck,

FDM-S3: USB device not recognized (Code 43)

Clint

Hi there,

I am getting this code when I try to run my new FDM-S3 on my computer. I am running the latest version of Windows 10 on a laptop that is only a few months old. It has USB-3 etc. and I am running the latest version of the FDM-SW2 software. In fact I have tried Versons 3.037 and 3.046.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Clint

Vianney hello
Yes, with Lenovo G580 as before, there are no problems. I've tried cables of different lengths, but they work on Lenovo without any problem. On Asus, the problem remained intractable in the form of IQ data drops / skips at bandwidths above 768 kHz.

Hello,

coming back to the Lenovo computer, have you no issue as before ?

Are you using the same usb cable with both computer ? What happens if you use another usb cable, maybe shorter or with ferrites ?

My name is Danila, I am a Russian from Krasnodar.
This is my first post in this group.
I have been using this wonderful SDR for more than a year and I have never had any comments or problems in its work, it mainly worked in tandem with a Lenovo i5 Intel laptop running Windows 7 OS.
A new ASUS ROG Strix G GL731GT-H7118T notebook (Windows 10 Home) was purchased specifically to improve performance when working with SDR.
But problems started right away! Elad FDM S2 does not work correctly at bandwidths over 768 kHz. This is most likely expressed in missing IQ data readings, there are probably missing packets on the USB bus. This manifested itself in SDR Console, HDSDR, and Elad's native program.
I tried to change USB ports, supplied additional power to the receiver via a USB hub, all in vain!
If anyone faced a similar problem, please tell me the ways to solve it.

Best wishes to the community.

Danila.

Re: SW2 FFT Resolution

Neil Smith G4DBN

I use Spectrum Lab to get milliHertz or finer resolution on the audio stream from my DUO.  The IF waterfall in 192 kHz with the DUO is 2.9 Hz per bin.  Using Spectrum Lab with an FFT length of 262144 and decimation of x4 gets me down to 69 mHz noise bandwidth (46 mHz bin width) with an update of one pixel every five seconds at 75% overlap.

This is a weak harmonic of a stable crystal oscillator as received on my DUO into Spectrum Lab.

Now, an option with resolution on the order of 1 Hz (spectrum & WF) really would be something for carrier offset detection/measurement!

I forgot to mention that the IF SPECTRUM window span can be reduced to 187Hz.

For me the IF SPECTRUM window for each receiver gives a nice hi resolution 48.0kHz wide FFT.

Hi,
One thing that I miss in the SW2 is the possibility to set the FFT Resolution. Or have I overlooked this possibility for years?

There were some threads about this issue with the new codecs last year, might be worth searching the EladSDR archive.

Re: FDM DUO GAIN VARIATION #fdm-duo

Yes, as I said, it shows to within 1dB the level I put into the -Duo.  Tested at 20MHz, but there's no reason it should be wildly different at other frequencies.

Thank you for the suggestions. It confirms that my Duo is not performing correctly as you both report the rig to be stable. Andy, does your Duo indicate the level correctly from a signal generator?
Simon, Thank you for your suggestion, I have tested the measuring leads and generator on my SDR Play and Icom rig. The generator measures -2db at -75dbm and seems stable. The drop in S meter reading is around 20 db. Cycling power usually restores to normal. I have been in contact with the dealer and the rig will have to return to Italy for repair. My reservations in this are the very intermittent nature of the fault.
