S2: How can I simulate RIT function?

Bill Alpert

I like to use my S2 alongside my IC-7300. They share an RF signal, using the PTRX-7300 board installed in the Icom rig. Surprising how much more I can hear in the noise, when listening to the Elad, compared to the 7300.

In CW mode is there some way to simulate/emulate the RIT function of my ICOM rig? I'm looking for a simple way to zero beat without chasing another station up and down the band.

Any ideas appreciated!

Re: New beta version v3.037

I think there is a newer version being worked on to support the extra S3 options like the gps support etc.

Personally i prefer the larger frequency display much better if running hires displays or 4K display makes it easier to read....

Also I haven’t got my new S3 yet, and I still have to produce the new help videos that explain all the great features of the S3

Hope to have it next week, also great news for the S2 owners, you should be able to use the 50mhz to 2ghz add on which is an external box... Available late summer, stay tuned.. 16bit up to 2ghz great for L-band etc....

I can live with it although a check box to enable/disable “ugly, larger display” would be nice 😊

The filename fix is good news. Thank you for letting us know.

I don’t suppose the ugly, larger new frequency display has been reverted back to the old style?

Hello,

There is a new beta version to the FDM-SW2 software. Version 3.037.

http://eladit.com/download/sdr/FDM-sw2%20Software/Under%20test/index.php?lang=EN

Most important thing is that this is fixed:

3. fixed issue during files sequence playback, the name of the file did not

change when the file number increased

There are also a few mentions of the FDM-S3.

Unfortunately still no possibility to jump to previous file when in Play back.

first of all, many thanks to G4DBN and others here who have chimed in with helpful hints regarding WFM reception using my new FDM Duo and SW2

i am going to admit it here - in public: i am an idiot... the rig and software is working great... the problem is operator error!

here is what i was trying to do:

fdm -> sw2 -> wfm -> output to fdm speaker

after a 'smack my forehead' moment:

fdm -> sw2 -> wfm -> output to computer speaker

sheesh! i am truly humbled and can only attribute this is my recent 65th birthday!

again, thanks to everyone here!

On the DUO, you can use either port for reception, they connect to the same input internally. Undersampling is a bit of a compromise, but it works OK at least on 91.5MHz. As you approach the sampling frequency 122.88MHz, things get worse, then come back again on the other side, but still very deaf compared with a proper VHF receive front end.

thank you... i am at the point where i can receive NOAA WX broadcasts (162.450 FM) standalone (which is good as we live in hurricane country)... i understand that VHF reception is via the RX ANT port...

i am not using any profiles

setting up SW2 to receive WFM broadcasts on the other hand is proving difficult (should it be this hard?) i edited the FDMSW2SwSetup.xml file and can hear WFM broadcasts using SW2, but the sound is distorted, muffled, etc. even when WFM is chosen in the drop-down on the main window... am i missing some filtering setting? and the LPF box in the upper right of the main window is unchecked...

kinda stumped...

thanks for your support...

i guess what i am asking for is some help on a step-by-step for WFM reception

This is the BBC national Radio Three on 91.5MHz.  Sounds good to me, RDS works, and stereo sounds good.  Ignore those notches, I was listening to the SAQ Grimeton station at the weekend and forgot to remove the notches.  Antenna is my Top Band TX antenna as I don't have anything else connected below 10GHz!

Re: Elad CPU Usage

George, I had CPU usage issues when trying to run under Windows emulation using a Mac.

My guess would be that the SW2 program really prefers a modern OS and a modern processor to work optimally. I ended up buying a Dell Ryzen 7 processor laptop on special at Best Buy, and the problems disappeared.

Hello,

I know that some have modified the input for the Ameritron ALS-600 but was wondering if there are any FDM-DUO users out there who can share their experience using other eb104 type amplifiers with low input drive?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

You have to edit a line in one of the configs Bill.

Close SW2, then edit the file c:\users\<you username>\Documents\ELAD\FDM-SW2\FDMSW2SwSetup.xml

Find the line saying:

<UnlockDUOt value="0" />

and change the 0 to a 1, then save the file.

Restart SW2 and so long as you untick the LPF box, you'll be able to tune above 54MHz. UnlockDUOr is for the FDM-DUOr.  See also the note about profiles if you are using those.
