Re: Fdm1 #elad #fdm-s2

Interesting.  I just created a new standard user as a Local account (not Microsoft cloud account).

I set up and started SW2, and it all worked correctly with no error messages.  It created the FDM-SW2 folder for that user in the default location

So it looks like no admin privileges are necessary to *RUN* SW2 for local accounts on Windows 10 version 1903, so long as you don't change the default location of the installation (C:\Program Files (x86)\ELAD\ELAD FDM-SW2) and the data folder (C:\Users\test\Documents\ELAD\FDM-SW2).  I'm sure that installing or updating the software would result in UAC prompting for admin privileges

If the software is installed somewhere else other than the default, or pointed at a different data folder (such as  c:\ELAD), then it certainly could need admin privileges to run it. It might also be different in the Pro/Enterprise variants of Win10.  This is just a home user installation.

Re: Band Plans #fdm-duo #eladduo

Paul, I've postponed this task until now, to give me time to finish my shack @ home. So now downloaded 'Bandplan US 2.0'. The app connects to the radio but will not allow me to write to the radio.
" FDM-DUO firmware version not enabled to update bandplan"
I look through the manual for a setting to allow this and only found "menu 80" but not sure I'm on target here and don't want to brick this puppy.

Can you help here...

PS:
I reset the radio to factory defaults and the current firmware versions are:
UI=3.00, FGA=2.00, USB=4.07, RX=1.00, TX=1.02

Firstly the S3 is not available at wimo in Germany, they are taking preorders which we at elad do not do. We are finalizing the gps clock side of the radio, which is an add on from the original design, my updated model should be arriving here with in the next week or so.

Once it’s available, trust me you will know, we know it’s been a while, but trust me from a long time radio user, it’s worth the wait.

Hi Raimund, is that because some device or driver or disk file permissions are not available to non-privileged users?

Which additional permissions are required? It would be useful to know which resources might be affected.

I don't see any reference to this in the Elad documentation?

a updated beta program is out . i am Not having any issues running the sdr console program ...it has a much smoother receive than sw2  the first beta had a few minor issues .. the elad did not outputt  full 5 watt of power when set on 5 watts this has been corrected the tx would stop working sometimes when you switched bands  and you needed to stop and restart the radio in the sdr program it has a stop start button   this has been fixed too  you can run 16 receivers at once! lol  hell i cant even handle hearing my wife and one receiver....  ONE oddity i have found and i am posting it here in hopes it will help someone else, when you switch back to sw2 your tx is disabled no power out UNTIL you open up the FDM-DUO pane in the op left of sw2  and click on the HF MACRO than the tx works as it should . enjoy 73 n8obu

Willy, I agree to some point. I have waited for 3 years to buy this receiver and heard rumours of some technical difficulties and hoped they could be resolved in a reasonable time.
This said, I'm very pleased with my FDM-S2 over many years and I understand that Elad will not sell a product that could give us problems in the future.

Indeed communication is what we need and it will directly influence potential customers with their choice. This gives the impression that the after-sales service could be mediocre, which we know that it is good.

I written an e-mail to Franco with the hope that things will be clear soon.

I see no direct competion for the FDM-S3. I have a number of SDR's that share some functionality, but not all that the FDM-S3 is offering. Off coarse I can be wrong ;-)

Re: FDM-S3 availbility

Folks, why not just ask Elad privately? Moaning on here, however politely it is done, achieves nothing useful.

Posting messages which might be seen as negative by potential new customers for the existing products does not help Elad's revenues and R&D budget.  Whingeing and complaining is what that cesspit of negativity called F***book is for.

Buying the products of small, specialist companies isn't like buying from a major corporate, where using public forums to put pressure on them might stimulate a PR department to garner additional resources from the Board.

Posting on this forum isn't going to cyber-bully Elad into releasing products and features before they are ready to do it. Complaining on here because you didn't get a reply from Elad also is also unhelpful. I would probably buy a GHz-capable S3 if they become available, but I'm not going to moan if they don't materialise.

This complete vacuum of reliable information is confusing.
Yes, there is a virus, there were closed borders, but now it has changed.
If ELAD wants to retain its potential customers, it must come with a statement for the foreseeable future.
Uncertainty does not increase trust in the company, there are more or less alternatives to use instead of S3.
ELAD, unless one of you is reading this, write answers about the near future of the S3 2GHz version, please.
Best regards,
Wily

Apparently they are now back in the factory after lockdown, and manufacturing about to start last time I heard, about six weeks or so ago.

I think the "vanilla" version of the S3 covers up to and including Band 2 (with a gap somewhere, as with the S2) with an add-on board giving the coverage up to 2Ghz.

Given it's now 3 years since the S3 was first announced, and a number of false starts in that time, I honestly don't know when we will see it, though there are some prototypes in use.

Will certainly be too late for this season now, at any rate.

Art 120 Surprise

Heinz-Juergen Kronemeyer

After 2 Hours I got this surprising new Screen on my Duo Art. Reboot and running again. Some kind of Linux is running on the Duo Art (Arch Linux?). Hardware is ARM based. Raspberry?

It should be possible to have a SSH Connection to the Art for Logging and Debugging. I often have non recoverable EXT-IO Errors (reboot necessary). It's not the cable, sometimes no Errors for Days, sometimes one (or more) Errors a Day. After a reboot, it runs stable for Hours or Days.
