I use a Heil Pro 7 Headset and an Icom adapter and it works great. Never used the mic that came with the rig.

Yes, an IC-706 etc. Mike should work OK.
Not tried, though.

ELAD FDM-DUO is plug-compatible with Icom RJ45 ('Western' 8 pole) plugs.

At least as far as it goes with PTT hot, PTT ground, Mike hot and Mike ground connections.

For the rest (there are Icom Mikes with a lot of 'fancy' buttons): I do not know.
I'd recommend staying away from these Mikes.

Hi, Steve - welcome to the Duo! I'm sure you'll really enjoy it.

As it turns out, there was a short mic discussion in this group almost exactly 3 years ago:

Icom mics are reported to work well.  Some may require a plug adapter from 8-pin to modular.

Hi Bill,
I'd say it depends on your needs re. an 'outdoor' radio and from what kind of 'outdoor' radio you wanna upgrade from.

For SOTA e.g. it makes a big difference whether you drive up that summit by car or hike up by foot for some hours,
where weight becomes a critical factor which finally determines the 'building blocks' of your SOTA gear.

Confirm you’re running 1.043 of SW2?

That’s is a VERY old version we are up to 3.027 released and 3.033 under test, this may cure your issue if you upgrade?

Roland, have you tried other programs like SDRconsole v3 or HDSDR to see if its also the same happening there? If not, there is a problem with the SW2 version you use. If not your pc might be at fault here. Seems there are a number of audio problems in Windows 10 that are still not resolved after all these years. Also the input of the FDM-S2 can be overloaded due to a very strong signal within the receiving passband. You can try to set it to a 384 kHz sample rate and see if this still happening. If not, you can be shure have an overload of the adc coming from a broadcast nearby your home.

Re: Duoart Feet

Vianney Colombat

I give some information about DUO-ART feet. There are OLD and NEW feet, see the image below.

OLD feet are made of plastic, both the base and the foot.

For NEW feet, which are recently mounted on DUO-ART that go out the factory, the base is made of aluminum and the foot is made of plastic. There is also a grommet on the base for when the foot is folded.

Aspects that make NEW feet stronger are the shape of the foot, the amount of plastic used and the fact that a metal shaft is used to attach the foot to the base.

The spare part we provide for OLD feet is only the foot.

We don't provide NEW feet (base+foot) as spare part. The reason is the base substitution is not easy to do. However we offer the replacement service of OLD feet with NEW feet at a cost of 60 euros (shipping costs not included).

Re: Duoart Feet

Victor Dorer

It would be nice if they could come up with a retro-fit with a tilt bail as a substitute for the plastic feet on all units (FDM-DUO, Speaker and DUO ART).

Re: Duoart Feet

Clint Chron

Does the foot break or the plastic mounting frame attached to the bottom of the radio?  I think it would be pretty easy to make a 3D foot, but that would probably not eliminate the breaking problem.  I could probably turn out some aluminum feet on my lathe.  They would not break but would probably add several dollars to the cost of the radio.
