Thanks Bill for your reply. You may be correct. I remember deleting old recordings one day during recording, as a result of another application warning about low disk space. It is likely this happened at the same time.

I am used to get a low disk space warning from SW2 when I start recording; this has reminded me to delete old files. Failure to do so has led to SW2 stopping its recording when the disk is full. Now the behaviour was different.

The microphone that comes with the ELAD
doesn't sound bad. I made a lot of contacts with good audio
reports. While trying to adjust levels I listened on another
receiver and heard a lot of mechanical
clicks etc while using it. I opened it up to see exactly how it
was constructed. Very basic. The electret element seems to
be a very good match. The inside of the
Microphone housing was stamped HM118. My mic seemed very prone to
mechanical noises being transmitted with PTT switch.
This is a very inexpensive microphone.

I had a nasty case of IQ recording failing on the fifth file. I was recording medium waves with the 1,536 MHz bandwidth with FDM-S2. This has never happened to me before. There has been the occasional failure to start recording, yielding a 0kb file. That however, is possible to be spotted as the Rec indicator does not light up. This one cannot be seen at all before trying to play back the recording.
Note that while files 004 and 007 are just 1kB in size, the two in between are considerably larger. All of them show correct stop times in their header.
I do not expect I can recover these files. However, I really would like to avoid this in the future. Any ideas about the cause?

Actually, already the third file is smaller than the expected 13,107,169 kB. When the playback hits the spot where things went wrong, I get an awful noise from my headphones.

Thank-you. Now that I have actually received the radio, I am satisfied with the build quality of the microphone and will stick with it for a while. I just completed a 1600km QSO on 7 watts. So, I am satisfied at this time.

Hi, as far as I know all Icom microphones are electret type with bias, except some old hand microphones that are dynamic, but with a preamplifier that makes it works the same as the electret types. You should have no problem to use your Icom hand mic with the adaptor.

Hi Everybody,
Just made my first contact on FT8 at 8 watts using my Ciro Mazzoni Stealth Loop. When I closed SW2, WSJT-x was working directly with the rig. If anyone knows a workaround to get SW2 working with WSJT-x, please let me know what I am missing here.

I am using my FDM DUO with SW2. I have used WSJT-x for about 3 years with my FLEX and ANAN radios. I have the three USB cables all plugged in. for the DUO, and I am getting decoding and CAT control on frequency changes. I have WSJT-x configured as you show in this post. And, I am getting a green button on "TEST CAT" Here comes the "BUT".. When I click on Test PTT, the SW2 software crashes. When I unclick the Test PTT button, it all returns to normal. Would you be able to point me in the right direction? Love the radio on first unboxing. Build quality is first rate. 73 Mark KK2L

Mic into 528e then into W2IHY IPlus 3 position interface with level controls for each switched output. I then fed audio into a flex 5k, elad or ts990. No other external amplification. Mike WA8EBM Sent from my Samsung Galaxy smartphone.

I'm writing a program to synchronize my transceiver frequency to the fdm-s2 and visa-versa without using Omnirig which has some unfortunate side effects. It's working fine but now the SDR does not mute when I transmit. Looking through the TCP documentation I don't see any way to mute the audio channels. I know I can do it with HW but I don't have the connector yet.
Am I missing something? Jeff NG6X

ive done away with the hub and now have the three leads plugged in to separate USB ports on new laptop Still no audio on wsjtx and still the warning  every time I go into sound settings on windows I get the error in the picture i have 2 blue coloured usb and 1 black on this Acer Nitro 5 and it’s a gaming laptop of a week old iain

FB. It looks like there is an adaptor (OPC-589), from ICOM, that goes from 8 pin modular to 8 pin male adaptor that is available. This would allow me to use a variety of ICOM mics. Of course, assuming that most ICOM mics are electret type with bias? Just as an example, would my handheld from my IC-9100 work with the FM DUO using the adaptor?

Hi Mark, it's an Icom standard connection, electret with bias. I
use a Heil headset, and you can get an Icom-style insert, but I
use a dynamic HC-5 with +12dB boost and Compression 8 on the DUO
menus, and a 5uF blocking capacitor on the insert, I take the PTT
out to a footswitch. Any Icom-compatible electret mic should

Expecting my new FM DUO today and was thinking about alternative microphone to the OEM included with the radio. I saw it in a video that this rig is ICOM compliant. I think it was a ARRL introduction “lab” presentation However, the CAT 5 input has me confused. If anything, I would think this is a Yaesu friendly radio in terms of microphone. you are using the DUO in standalone with WSJT-X. This is my setup for standalone with just CAT and TX USB into the DUO

For your use-case, you should only need the CAT and RX USB connections. If you have two USB ports on your machine, I'd connect the RX to one and the hub to the other, along with any other devices, and see if that helps at all.
